Hi,

I have a 1995 316i bmw which has one push up/down leccy windows. With my current alarm when i lock the car the windows go up, but the alarm is bust and i have bought a new one ( a mannix sm700). My question is will i need a window module to get the new alarm to continue doing total closure with the mannix alarm?

Any comments much appreciated,

No, chances are you have the window modules in the car now and all you need to do is to wire the (-) trigger output of the alarm to the window module and it will be fine.

thanks for your reply jeff.

The alarm i used to have was compact alarm system the laserline 989, it had a dip switch for closure delay of either 1sec or 25sec. I think my windows would only close if it was on 25sec. Would that mean i havent got the window module seperate?

No, that means that the window module requires a signal equal or greater than the time it take the window to close. Otherwise if it's set to pulse 1 second, the window module will only get power for 1 second and then shut off the power. Most window modules require a latched or 15 second signal to engerize the module enough to close the window.

ahh, its all starting to make sense now, thanks again jeff!

I'll have a look to see if i can find the module. Is it possible to wire the module so that it can also open the windows on an aux. remote command? Or would you need a module that has outputs for up and down?

Yes, that is possible. Just take the (-) input from the module and wire in a diode to isolate it from the starter disable (-) trigger and you can use both or just one. This will only allow you to open OR close the windows but not both. If you want to do both, you will need another window module.

I have a 1995 bmw which has auto window roll up (when the lock wires are powered for long enough). My old alarm use to have a 25sec lock pulse which was more than enough time for the windows to go up. Ive now installed a mannix alarm, which gives 1sec or 3.5sec. But 3.5secs is only enough time to roll the windows halfway up! 1995 bmw 316i total closure w/alarm -- posted image.

Is there anyway i can increase the pulse time?

Damn, I have never heard of any alarm having a 25 second lock pulse.

Yeah tell me about it! well it was for the total closure and it worked.

Anyone know how to increase the output time for closing on a mannix alarm? or is there any electrical device i can put on to the output to increase the closing time for the windows?
