1990 seville

i was wondering if any one out there knows how to reset the arlam on an 1990 caddilac seville, because it wont let me start the car due to the arlam theft systemwikedness

The car has a content alarm system which sounds the horn and flashes the lights if any door is opened when the system is armed. The car also has an immobilizer system called VATS or Passkey. It is comprised of a resistor in the body of the key, which when inserted into the ignition cylinder is read and compared to a valid reading stored in the engine computer. If the value equals the stored value the starter and fuel system are enabled. The problem could be anywhere in the system. The usual problem is either the key's resistor value has changed or the reader/contacts inside the ignition cylinder are faulty. You could try another key if you have a second one for the car. You can also use a multi-meter to read the value of the keys resistor. Under the driver's side dash in the ignition cylinder harness there is an orange wire containing two small white wires. Use the meter set on an ohms scale and place your meter probes across both of these small white wires. Place the key into the ignition cylinder and compare the value read to the value read across the key alone. The two must match within 10%. The system is designed to reset after 15 minutes and will allow the car to start if the correct resistence is read. If the value is still wrong the car will shut down again for 15 minutes again. The system is a fairly simple one, but finding schematics for your car will help if further diagnosis is required.sparky
