2003 Ford F250 Turbodiesel with Autopage 750 LCD.  When using the remote start feature and attempting to shutdown the system from the remote, the alarm activates due to dome light coming on.  I haven't checked, but believe this will also occur after automatic 5 minute shutdown while system is in remote start status.  What can I do to solve this?

This is all the information I have for the 2002 Ford Super Duty Trucks:

Diode isolate the brake wire with cathode band facing the remote starter and relay isolate the starter wire with a 30/40 amp relay in this configuration:

  • 87 : Vehicles Starter wire
  • 85 : Ground
  • 30 : 12 Volts Constant
  • 86 : Remote Starter output wire.

These will fix problems associated with the GEM on the Ford trucks. Here is a wiring diagram as well for the truck: This information is for a 2002 Ford Super Duty F Series Truck

Notes:

NOTE: On DIESEL vehicles the wait to start light is activated by a databus wire from the ECM. To do wait to start use a pulse timer relay and follow directfax document #1091.  *1 Without keyless entry use pink / YELLOW for lock and pink/lt. green for unlock. They are 5 wire reverse polarity mastered from the driver switch and found in either kick panel. With keyless entry use WHITE/ red for lock and BLACK/ white for unlock. They are negative trigger and found at the VSM. On the vehicles with keyless entry the GEM shuts down after the doors have been locked for a certain time period, to "wake-up" the system refer to directfax document #1094.  *2 The VSM (Vehicle Security Module) is to the right of the accelerator pedal above the transmission hump below the radio. Not accessible from radio opening.  *3 For tach go to any one of the ignition coils and use the wire that is NOT RED / lt. green. On diesel vehicles the tach wire is green or white, in a 42 pin plug under the clamp on the engine side of the air intake duct.  *4 Also found at the radio on vehicles that have the in-dash CD changer.

You have 4 wires that are on the drivers side firewall taped to the wire harness white, blue, red, and black, they go through the firewall and are taped up under the dash. These wires are not connected to anything and save u the time of routing wires through the firewall. Under the drivers dash below and to the left of the fuse panel you will find those wires with a GREEN / WHITE wire. That wire provides a tach signal for any accessories when installing a remote start on a 2002 350.

Below are the ignition wires I used.

Wires are at the ignition switch harness near the bottom of the steering coloum.
Blue with Green Tracer= +12V in Accessory position Also called Accessory Wire
Green= +12V when Cranking Also Called Starter Wire
Red with Black Tracer= +12V in run position Also called Ignition 2
Red with Green Tracer= +12V in run position Also called Ingnition 1
Ya can't interface to the glow plug light in the dash for the delay like the old days (last year) . . . we now have to add a 15 second timer to the glow plug line of the r-starter.

Another trick for the XLT with RAP is to use the pink ignition wire from behind the radio to click a normally closed relay open.  Put pins 30 and 85 to ground, pin 87a to glow signal to brain, 86 to pink ignition going into radio. . .

Also if your truck has keyless check to see if the GEM module goes to sleep after a few minutes meaning that you can't unlock doors from switches.   You then have to use a disarm pulse to trigg the door pin switch and set your module for double pulse unlock.

Hmm, Wiring different colors, imagine that!

All connections are made correctly (I think) and I am assuming brake and starter wire are diode isolated correctly at this point as the diagram shows.  I am guessing that all F250 trucks without factory security system have a dome light supervision that activates the dome light when the truck is shut off.  (Key on, dome off; Key off, Dome on.) When the truck is remote started, there is no problem.  When the remote start shuts off, the dome light comes on and causes the alarm to activate.  The alarm shows a door violation when this happens because the door triggers and domelight operate with the same wire.  Additionally, the alarm doesn't begin auto arming for 30 seconds after last door shut due to dome staying on. This is a tolerable problem but results in a one minute delay before the alarm is armed.  Is there a way to disable that factory dome light delay?  Is it possible that the door triggers are not diode protected correctly?

From topinstaller reply :

Whats happening to you is a common problem. All your newer Ford products are equipped with a GEM(Generic Electronic Module) this device was designed to save battery life by shutting down the lighting of the vehicles interior(domelights, trunk lights, under hood light, courtesy, glovebox, etc). If you have an aftermarket alarm installed and you set your alarm it will false 30 minutes later some Fords are 45 minutes also. You have to double diode isolate the door triggers and also hood and trunk triggers if hooked up because in 30 minutes when your GEM shuts down it will remove 12V+ from the circuit causing a slight ground backfeed to the trigger wires. This ground is enough to set of your aftermarket alarm system the aftermarket alarm thinks the door was opened.

Protecting both of your doors, your hood and your trunk using the factory pin switches would require a total of 8 diodes. If installed correctly this would solve all further falsing problems
