Hey all...
This is my first time installing a remote starter. I have a 1998 GMC Sierra 6cyl Auto.
I have read the instructions over and over. I think I have it down but was just wondering if anyone had any extra tips.
The kit I'm installing is a Jensen JKRS3
I have the wiring diagram for the truck and it looks like all the wires are right under the dash. I think I'll be using the under hood light for the safety.

Inhibit wire on 98 Sierra.
- White brake light switch wire.
Might anyone know if it's +12v or -12v?
Thanks!

Have everything connected except two wires:
1) Starter wire, still trying to decide between two yellow wires which one is correct.
2) Tach wire. I found the following info for a 2001 GMC; would this be the same for a 1998? (6cyl)
"...take out the 4 phillips head screws that hold the instrument cluster in, tilt it forward and pull it out. Find the only white wire (99% sure the only one) and that will work perfect..."
I did what it said and found a white wire but dont have a DMM to test it with, just a light. I didn't test it yet though. What do you guys think?

There is a yellow wire and a yellow jacketed airbag harness, STAY AWAY FROM THIS HARNESS!>!
the yellow wire you want was taped in with the rest of the ign wires. There will also be a small 20awg yellow wire which is the Rcode wire for the passlock system

I would suggest buying a multimeter. I wouldnt be doing this stuff without one. Even if this is the only one you do I am sure you will find other uses for the meter in the future.  A cheap one will do. Somewhere around $20

Heh. Just read your post. Guess what I just picked up from Radio Shack! A new DMM. I had to get one because I made all the connections but I can't get the unit to program.
The default settings are fine but the unit requires that I program the Tach before it will remotely start. I followed the instructions but it doesn't seem to be working.
Here are the instructions:
   a) turn key on
   b) press program switch 3 times
   c) turn key off
   d) hold down program switch and start car using key
   e) wait for lights to flash 3 times then release sw.
...but the lights never flash 3 times.
I know the lights flash (keyless entry is working)
I measured the Tach at the unit, it's at about 3.
I tested the program sw using DMM, it's working.
I know I'm missing something but I dont know what.
