do I have to use an actuator to activate the factory central door locking system in a 2002 nissan sentra.

no, the lock is gray and unlock is PURPLE / red at the SECU (SMART ENTRY CONTROL UNIT) to the righr of the steering column.

but when i apply a negative pulse to these wires the driver side door door locks do not respond

when you are doing this make sure the key is out of the ignition and all doors are closed except for drivers door.
