Hey Fellas,

I have just actively began trouble shooting a problem with my Blazer.  I bought it used in Feb. of this year and it came with a remote start / car alarm already installed.  The problem I am having is that sporadically when starting it, the car will crank and crank resulting in the remote start just "giving up."  At that point I try it with the key and it won't start either.  It will only again start if I let the car sit for several minutes and then retry it with the key.

Through my reading I think I have pinpointed it down to the "remote start" activating the PASSLOCK feature on my car.  Don't know if I have a Passlock I or Passlock II or if that even matters.

Here is what I do know:  Its a DEI PYTHON keypad that I have, and I press two buttons twice to activate the remote start.  Initially I thought it was a timing issue by me that kept tripping this problem (either too long or too short key presses) but I swear I hit the keypads the same way each time!

Next, I thought maybe if I disable the alarm before hitting the remote start it would fix the problem, well not really, it still happens.

Then I thought that maybe because my steering column isn't locked, but that's not it either.

Lastly, I tried to tie it to the weather over here (Chicago) but its happened pretty much all year long.

Strange thing is that this happens very unpredictably, I can't seem to replicate the problem under ANY theoretical test conditions.  It either starts or cranks.  Probably 1 in 10 starts will be a crank 9 in 10 will be okay.

1.  How can I trouble shoot this?

2.  Does this seem common?

3.  What to do?

Thanks guys.

Check to see that the bypass module is getting a (-) when the car tries to start. Depending on what bypass module was used, you will need to ensure that the module is working properly in order for consistent starts.

Where would one begin to look for the bypass module? Near the steering column, I'd imagine?

Thanks.

The bypass module will start from there and run almost anywhere under the dash. You'll have to follow wires to a small black box and then decypher the wiring and what kind of bypass module it may be.
