I gotta say I love this site it has been very helpful in the past.  Right now I got  a few ?'s on my aps 996a it's in my 98 ram 1500 with factory keyless entry.  I installed before I went to Iraq and never actually used it now i'm back and when i use the aftermarket remote to unlock my doors it won't my factory one still does though.  The aps 996a remote will lock the doors and set the alarm and will also disarm the alarm when u press the unlock buttom but it also locks the door.  Also with the remote start the parking lights blink 4 times but won't start it.  Any help is much appreciated if you would like clarification on my question or anything I would gladly inform you.

Thank You

4 flashes mean the switch under the dash is turned in the off pos.

First off...thanks for going and coming back safe.  The door locks on your truck are a one wire set-up

lock is a neg trigger thru 620ohms of resistance

unlock is a neg trigger thru 1500 ohms of resistance. The lock feature on your alarm needs to be set for a double unlock pulse, the first disarms, the second unlocks.

The no start issue might be the valet or safty switch being in the OFF position. Also a hood pin problem might exist.

Did you install a hood pin? It wont let the truck start if the hoods open, or if the pin is NOT INSTALLED. If its not installed the brain thinks the hood is open...........

Good Luck and God Bless ya man!!

the only time that the brain thinks the hood is open, is when the hood pin wire has ground on it. So if its not hooked up to anything, it will think the hood is closed. Thats the whole idea behind the pin itself. when it is up all the way, it gives a path to ground.

Well figured out my remote starter problem.  I didn't program the tach.   But,  of course the locks still don't work properly i tried the double unlock pulse  with no success.  Do u think i hooked it up wrong because when you press the unlock it will lock the doors  i hooked it up through the keyless entry.

Thanks

Brad
