I purchased a 1995 (used) Subaru Legacy with what was termed a "latent" security system from a private owner.  An LED light flashes on the left of the dashboard until you start the engine.  More and more frequently the car won't start at all.  All the idiot lights come on but nothing happens when I turn the key.  Approximately 1/2 hour later it starts up again as if nothing was wrong.  Could this be the fault of a passive starter kill?  I am at a loss. I have had the battery, wiring, etc all check out.  I would greatly appreciate anyone's help on this.  Thank you.Passive Security System? -- posted image.

When the vehicle doesnt start, do you get a clicking noise on the engine ?

If you dont, the next time it doesnt start get somebody to turn the key into the start position & check to see if you have a positive feed on the solenoid terminal of your starter motor. If you have & the starter does not turn you need to look at starter motor, if you havent got a positive feed then I suggest you check ign switch wiring on back of switch. If you have a feed there then I would say you have a suspect immobiliser. You should be looking for a thick 50+ BLACK/ white wire in ign switch wiring harness.

Good Luck
