viper 791xv,  range is great until vehicle is remote started.

while remote started, NO RANGE!  you have to hold the remote against the antenna and maybe it will work.

what could cause this type of interference and how do i overcome it?

p.s.  code hopping off        -  check

         double up batteries   -  check

         relocate antenna       -  check

wwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy???????????????????????????????????????

You are not using a factory remote are you?  If you are that might be why.  Otherwise I dunno.

i had a unit like that a few years back... when the vehicle was running something generated a wierd RF blanket that was killing that frequency... i think i narrowed it down to the blower motor running..... you may have to do some checking......i think that vehicle was a Tracker.... but i've also seen it on some J body GM vehicles.... an RF sniffer should track the problem down... it might even be the Viper unit is paging constantly too
