2002 Alero Remote Start/Alarm

Calling all install gurus! I installed a Hornet 553T RS/Alarm combo on my 2002 Alero (2 door). I used a GMDL-BP bypass from Trilogix and I have a couple of strange things happening: 1) If I remote start with security armed the alarm will go off and report two zones: door trigger and shock sensor (even when I tried it with the shock sensor unplugged!). 2) Unlocking from the transmitter only unlocks driver's door (even with bypass set to non-priority function). No matter how many times I press unlock, the passenger doors will not unlock. Neutral safety (in this case remote start lock out switch), brake switch, hood pin switch are all working properly. Door pins set off alarm with security armed like they are supposed to. I installed the system using the bypass to control door lock/unlock and trunk release, and the trunk release works correctly while the door locks only work on the driver's side (as mentioned above). The door triggers are diode isolated and connected to the alarm. I noticed that there is a door trigger output on the bypass module and was wondering if I should have used that instead of the direct wiring. I programmed the module to Vehicle Type 2 as directed by the install sheet. I have played around with different programming options on the bypass and the alarm and I can't figure out what's up. Do I need to direct wire the door locks (multiplexed)? My understanding was that the GMDL-BP was supposed to handle Passlock 2, door locks, trunk release and eliminate the old door lock wiring with the resistor etc. Any help would be much appreciated! Usually when you remote start the vehicle it will kick the interior lights on quickly and then they will go off. This is setting off your alarm system and you should use the pink and pink/white wires on the GMDL-BP. The GMDL-BP only works on Aleros equipped with OEM keyless. Does your car have that? Regardless we have had some problems using these modules to work with the grandam/aleros. I don't even bother with them I just wire the locks/trunk direct. If the only problem your having is unlocking, then just cut the wire loose from the GMDL-BP, and put a 1.5k ohm resistor inline and run it to the white wire in the drivers kick panel coming in from the drivers door. You may need to add a relay as well I'm not familiar with the hornet system and what type of outputs it has. You might want to try hitting the blue (-) unlock input with a straight ground to see if it still only does the driver door. Good luck, Mike

NowYaKnow, I'll be doing a 2002 Grand Am next week. What do you recommend for bypassing Passlock 2? PLDATA, resitor/relay, or something else?

I have the factory remote keyless....I'll try using the door trigger directly from the PLDATA and see if that fixes my problem. I think I can handle the locks if I can't go through the bypass unit, it just seemed like more work to wire it up the other way. Thanks for the info!

I prefer the PLDATA/GMBP databus bypass for the passlock 2, but even something that taps into the actual passlock wires like a 555L would be fine. Mike

Just use the GMBP or PLDATA for all Malibu's, Grand Am's, Alero's and Intrigue's. For the door locks, tap directly into them at the relays on the side of the fuse box.Jeff
