I am trying to install a Powerlock alarm on a 68 Camaro.

The alarm provides a horn output. This Camaro has a push button mounted on the colum to activate the horns. I think the previous owner did this because he put a 69 steering wheel on the 68 column. Reagrdless ... If I ground the horn wire or the relay (mounted on the radiator support) the horn sounds - or if I push the button on the column.

I spliced the horn output to the wire leading from the push button towards the horn (away from the ground). When we first fired up the alarm, when we turned off the car the horn sounded and the only way we could get it to stop was to take off the wire from the alarm. The company sent us a second brain thinking it might be fried.

On the second one it fired up right but when we took the fob away it didn't chirp (to show it was armed) and when the fob came back instead of chirping to say it was disarmed the horn sounded continuously.

The company suggest wiring in a separate stand alone horn/siren but I'd like to minimize all the extra stuff under the hood that I can. I am thinking the splice to the horn circuit SHOULD be from the button to the horn and not from the button to ground?

Any suggestions?

sound like you have the dome lights wire hooked up to it since it sounds continuously after disarming. check that the correct wire has been hooked up to the horn.

The horn output is connected to the horn wire. We've disconnected the dome light wiring until we can resolve the horn issue. Actually that dome light will be used for the trigger for the horn.

Have you tried replacing the horn's relay? Or adding a relay to the alarms horn output?

No, the relay seems to work all right for the horn itself. It sounds good and strong as if the ground is making a good connection on the relay. The directions and tech don't talk about the need for a relay. They just say to wire their horn output to the horn wire.

How would you tell if the relay is going bad? The horn and door ajar buzzer woork fine.

I was looking at the install manual for the Powerlock, which model are you using 6 pin or the 12 pin? According to the manual the 6 pin has a (-) negative horn output and the 12 pin has a (+) positive horn output.
