I am looking into installing a remote start in my 1998 expedition. I have the transponder key so i need to bypass the system with a module. When i do this will this allow the truck to be hot wired and stolen, or is there some type of back up?

thanks

The transponder key will only be able to work with power going into the module. Other wise even with the key inline with the PATS the vehicle will not start unless the module is activated.

I currently own a 98 expedition which I installed a remote start system.  The bypass module requires that you insert the spare key inside so that up on activating the remote start the vehicle will stay on.  The only problem with this is that if someone finds the module they will also find the spare key inside and will be able to use it to take the vehicle.  I found that using a key that has a transponder in it, regardless of what vehicle it belongs to, will work just as well and if someone happens to find the location of the module with the spare key at least the key won't work in the ignition.  At least that is the way I did it and I have not had a problem with the system yet in the past 8 months
