OK folks - pretty much finished with an Avital (DEI) 4200 in my '05 Ram (base model - no Sentry Key, etc.). I've got the truck starting and running with the RS, but the problem is the climate control doesn't work properly.

I've got it figured out that the heavy gauge blue wire is the blower and the small gauge pink / YELLOW wire is the A/C (and also keeps the ABS and brake warning lights off if 12v is applied to it). The problem is the RS unit only provides one accessory wire (orange). It looks like you can program it so that the RS unit's pink/white wire functions as an accessory wire instead of an ignition wire but I disconnected that wire from the 2nd ignition lead and the truck won't start if you do that.

It appears that I need both ignition wires and both accessory wires energized but I only have 3 total wires on the RS unit availabe (2 ign. and 1 acc., or 1 ign. and 2 acc. depending on how it's programmed).

What do I do?

P.S. The check engine light is on all the time now also - whether the RS or the key is running the vehicle.

OK - after some more reading in the install manual I found this: "Some vehicles may have separate wires for the blower motor and the air conditioning compressor. In such cases, it will be necessary to add a relay to power the 2nd accessory wire."

So - does anyone know how that relay would be wired? And which wire on the RS triggers the relay (I'm guessing the orange wire on the "remote start auxilary harness" - it's a (-) 200 mA accessory relay trigger).

I guess for now I just have no A/C and I have ABS and brake warning lights until I can get the relay wired?

Ok you need to find a status wire. If it is a newer alarm system there should be a three pin harness that plugs into the relay pack for remote start. There is a blue wire in that harness. That is a status wire. Next get a relay and wire it up as follows. blue status to 85,,,,,tap the orange acc wire from the remote start and connect to 87 and 86,,,then use the 30 for the output to your second acc wire. That way the relay will only energize when remote start is activated and not when you use your key. Hope this helps.

Thanks - so the relay feeds power from the RS's accessory wire after the "status wire" trips the relay? But keeps the vehicles two accessory wires as seperate circuits when you use the key?

Makes sense - the RS also has the 2nd accessory trigger I mentioned above - I assume in that case you would feed 12v constant to the relay, trigger the relay with the accessory trigger lead then the relay sends power to the A/C compressor lead?

Thanks again for all the help. After I had all the wires secured, RS modules hidden, trim panels re-installed, etc. the entire thing quit completely - took me an hour to figure out that the stupid antenna for the thing was unhooked - doh! Works fine again just need to get this A/C problem fixed.

Can someone help me with the correct wiring for the 2nd accessory wire (a/c compressor) on my '05 Ram? The Avital (Directed) RS unit has one heavy gauge (orange) accessory wire, which I've hooked up to the heavy gauge blue wire in the ignition harness (for the HVAC blower).

The install manual states that on vehicles that need a 2nd accessory wire powered up during remote start to use the 200mA accessory trigger (it's on a harness that plugs into the relay box).

I need to know which terminals on the relay get the trigger wire, the truck's A/C accessory wire, 12V constant, etc.

Thanks! This project is almost complete thanks to the wealth of info on this site!

Oh, also - how to wire the parking light flash and dome light supervision on this vehicle using a Directed RS unit - those features aren't necessary but would be nice to have. Thanks again.

PINK/LIGHT GREEN at the igntion harness and use this diagram to hook up from the alarm : http://www.velocitymotorsport.com/images/install_notes/N2P.jpg

There is a PINK / YELLOW for the 2nd ACC wire as well. If your RS doesn't have a 2nd ACC wire as well as a 2nd IGN wire, then use this diagram for a 2nd ACC wire: http://www.velocitymotorsport.com/images/install_notes/2nd_accessory_relay.jpg

There is BLACK / YELLOW wire, just like the earlier years, just outside the firewall in the engine compartment. It is a (+) trigger. It is located in the big harness that runs across the top of the firewall. Instead of wiring up a relay all you need to do is extend your park light wire and run it into the engine compartment.

hey I just installed an alarm/remote start in a 2003 dodge ram 1500. everything works but the check engine light is now on and I had to unplug the shift interlock so I could engage the transmission. has anyone had these issues??

2003 dodge ram 1500 quad cab. installed remote start w/ alarm, replaced stereo, all door speakers, and placed 2 10 inch subs under the back seat by using the storage for a floor box. everything works great, thanks to all the information on this site.

yes, after reading about 100 entries on this site I had realized that did not power up the 2nd accessory nor the 2nd ignition. everything has been working great since then.
