I was wondering if you can not find the resisitor value that you need at say Radio shack, can you wire them in series to add up to the correct resitance?  Or could you buy a simple pot an just adjust it untill the car starts?  What is the usual resistance of this system?(1000 ohms 5000 ohms?) Thanks for allm the help guys.  BrianH

yes you can take two resistors and put them in series to get the value you need, or you can get an adjustible pot and dial in the right resistance using a DMM. the resistance varies from vehicle to vehicle

Thanks for the quick reply.  I thought that it would work but I wanted a second opinion.  If I was to get a varible pot at Radio Shack is there a certain kind that I should buy?  I know that it should be rated for several thousand ohms.  What kind of tolerances do the pots have? 1 %-5%-10%?  I dont want to run into the problem of ambient temputure rise inside the vehicle making the resistance change.  Thanks for the help.  I do appreciate it.  BrianH

best thing to do is get an availabe module from dei or aamp that way it will always work it relearns every time you start it and will always work with a key.

I agree, use a pre made bypass module.  I am really beginning to like the data bypass kits... No resistors to change values bypassing passlock on 1999 Tahoe -- posted image.
