Hello,

I am experiencing some difficulty finding a disarm wire for this 2002 Mercury Sable.  I have tried the pink/orange wire at the top plug at the fuse panel, but it did not work.  There is a remote possibility that I did not grab the the right wire since it was incredibly difficult to reach.  it was the top wire and I am almost positive I couldnt reach any other wires in that plug.

Also I am having trouble with the tach wire.  I grabbed one of the twop tan / YELLOW wires coming from the passenger sife firewall plug and it seemed to work, but to make sure it was the right wire I disconnected it while it was running and it didnt shut off, then every time I tried to remote start it woul dstay running without the wire hooked up.  Sounds to me like I ruined my tach sensing.  ANy ideas on where to find another tach signal?

ALso, I have heard two theories on how to test for a tach wire. 1, If you probe the wire with your lead grounded it will stall the engine. 2. It should measure between 1.2 and 6V DC.  #1 has never failed me and I have only tried #2 a few times, nether of which have given me any solid results.  Any ideas?

Any information at this time would be greatly appreciated since I am 4 hours from home visiting relatives for the weekend and I am installing this for one of their friends.

Thanks

  • FCTRY ALRM DISARM----------------pink/white----------------|-|-------------26 pin plug at GEM
  • Tach wire alternative is to go to the injector wire and if the unit is a manual tach programming, set it to 1 cylinder. Otherwise go through the tach learn sequence again.
  • I've always used # 2 and it has never failed me.

This unit is a EZ-220  from commando alarms.  It does not have a tach learning or programming, it just has a dip switch to change from tachless to tach.  Is it possible that tapping into that tan / YELLOW wire ruined the tach sensing since the car stays running without a wire hooked up when it is in tach mode.  It did this to two units in a row.  The tan/yel wire measured 6.3 volts, I know that is not between 1.2 and 6, but I didnt think it was too far off.

What other details do you know about #2 method, is it exactly 1.2 to 6 as far as you know?

any other suggestion on the tach wire, I cant get to the injectors too easily.

Just out of curiosity what is the difference between disarm, and factory alarm disarm on the wire diagram.  why are there 2?

Thanks

Hey J Rilla, As long as the signal that you got from the TAN / YELLOW was a negative input then chances are you did not damage the tach sensing of the RS unit that you have.Procedure # 2 is done is AC and you have to place the RED lead of the DMM to a contant 12 volts and the BLACK lead will be attached to the target tach wire. With the car started at normal idle, the DMM should register 1 volt or more and will rise with the accelorator depressed.

Are you saying that there are two wires on the Commando ? One says DISARM and the other says FACTORY ALARM DISARM ? OR are you asking what is the difference between the two wires ? If you are asking the second question, there is no difference between the two. Test to ensure that the wire will output a (-) constant signal when the RS unit is activated and the signal stops when the RS unit is disabled or when the car takes over the RS unit.

Another suggestion for a tach signal is to use the alternator sense wire, but the RS unit that you have has to have this option available to sense a 12 volt + signal. Target wire should rest between 0-6 volts with engine off and rises to 12 volts or more when started.

Hope this helps and good luck witht he Sable.

Jeff, in regards to the factory alarm diasm vs the disarm, I was refering to the wire diagram I have has both of these wires.  The factory alarm disarm is the wire you mentioned and the disarm is the pink/orange I tried to tap into.  I was just asking what the difference was and if there was no difference why they aren't just mentioned as alternatives to one another.

Did you mean AC or DC when you mentioned the #2 method.

Thanks Jeff

They are referring to the same wire. They just have different terminology for the wires being desribed. Method # 2 requires the DMM to be in AC .
