Converting outputs??

Well, as a newbie to this site I certainly feel that I am "throwing my cap into the ring" (that means "getting my moneys worth and contributing - even though we are not paying for such a great resource)

Right, onto my question, many of our alarms in the uk have differing armed outputs( pos,neg,low current)

I would like to know if there is a simple way of converting a low current positive output ( not enough to switch a relay) into a full positive or negative - that will switch a relay by the addition of a few simple components.

Has anybody else hit this problem when adding modules etc

Add a transistor to the output. You can change the polarity of the output as well... go here to read all about transistors http://www.tpub.com/neets/book7/

If you want to convert polarity of wires try this :

• POSITIVE INPUT -----> POSITIVE OUTPUT
• 87 - constant 12 +
• 86 - Chassis Ground
• 30 - Output 12 +
• 85 - low current positive
• 87a- NOT USED
• NEGATIVE INPUT----> NEGATIVE OUTPUT
• 87 - Chassis ground
• 86 - constant 12 volts +
• 30 - GROUND output
• 85 - low current ground input wire from a device
• 87a - NOT USED
• POSITIVE INPUT ----> NEGATIVE OUTPUT
• 87 & 86 -  CHASSIS ground
• 30 - Ground OUTPUT
• 85 - 12 volt INPUT
• 87a - NOT USED
• NEGATIVE INPUT ----> POSITIVE OUTPUT
• 87 & 86 - 12 volts +
• 30 - 12 volts OUTPUT
• 85 - Ground INPUT

The above configurations will still allow a small voltage wire to control a high current power wire with a relay. I have used these configurations when a negative trigger wasn't enough to trip over the target device and added a relay to boost the negative signal. This applies to converting a low negative input to a high power + output. This has worked for me so I figured he could at least try this and if it does work, then he's got a relatively cheap fix and if not he can go the transistor route .
