Would it be possible to boost the signal from the cars alarm so that the remote could work even further.... has anyone ever attempted this?

I have a 2way pager/remote start.... and i would love to have it reach ever further... like using a real booster ?  i dont know what they would be called.. maybe something to hook up to the alarm attenana

There's no such booster. The only way you can get a farther distance with a 2 way system is test different combinations of remote controls and antenna's. The coils in the antenna usually dictate the range that the system and also the battery strength of the remote control.

So is it possible to use an antenna of a different brand for a certain unit then?

It IS possible to boost the signal. First, the easy way:

1. Make sure you got as direct sight as possible with the car.
2. I don't know if you already did, but use an external antenna for a MUCH better range.

The hard way would involve modifying the remote (and the in-car module), adding more RF amplifier stages to create stronger signal output, but you'll need some electronics knowledge to do that. Also, it's illegal to boost the signal more than a certain level (dictated by your local radio laws, and FCC).

But, again, using a good _externall_ antenna shoould increase the range quite alot.

If the pin outs match, maybe, but it won't necessarily give you a better range in the end. Most systems are designed only for the frequencies that they are manufactured to work on.

whats the big demand for extreme range. i've noticed with alarms that 99.9% of the time when i park the car i'm within range..

pager systems come in handy most when shopping or cinema or in pub/club. most of these places have car parks and you shouldn't far enough so you are out of range. well thats the case here anyway.

2500-3000ft is range enough i think.

i know its good to have a decen't range.. but most good systems have a good enough range for me anyway..

Well, the range is good when there is a direct line of sight between the pager and the car, but when it starts to have structures in between, the range seems to decrease drastically. Hmmm... i guess i'll just try and park my car within range as much as possible.
