I am seeking an alarm for under $200 that will get the job done.

I have heard that crime stopper was good for under $200.
Another thing, wha is the difference between a $800 dollar alarm and a $200 dollar alarm, besides the outrageous price difference.
Finally, why are Viper alarms so great?

Thanks,

-R.

Whether you have a 75$ alarm, a $200 alarm, or even a $800 dollar alarm, you alarm is only as good as the installation. For instance, you can get a cheap alarm and as long as you install it correctly you (most of the time) wont have any problems. Now remember, I said cheap, but not garbage. There IS a difference.

Any suggestions? Model numbers?

For instance i knoe several people who have the prestige aps996 two way lcd alarm/remote start and are Very pleased with it. I see them on ebay all day around $140. I've had a crimestopper FM2006 two way on one of my personal cars since 1998 when they first came out. Only problem I've had was from dropping the remote too many times. At the time(1998)those were around 250-$300. I've seen them now on ebay for under $125. And they newer versions such as the FM 2009 for about the same. If yer only looking for a basic alarm(no paging or remote start) I'd recommend a prestige aps15ch or the aps25ch, both can be found all over the net for around 50 bucks. I personally have installed over 75-100 of these and only had ONE comeback because the car's door pinswitch was acting up causing many false alarms. But one thing about Prestige alarms...The wiring harnes has no fuse on the parking light wire, I strongly advise you install one as you are doing your install (I do on all my installs).
