Alarm wont switch relay.

I'm trying to hook up remote boot release in my 1989 Mazda 626 (Australian).  The alarm is a Mongoose M20, with a negative Channel 2 Output.

The boot release solenoid is wired in with a ground and the 12v wire leading to a relay in the cabin.  The relay is wired according to this: https://www.the12volt.com/relays/page1.asp

With the alarm ch2 output on the relay, nothing will happen.  With the relay disconnected, the alarm pulses -12v when a button on the remote is pressed.  When the relay is grounded it closes and the boot release solenoid triggers.

My problem is that the alarm will not trigger the relay, almost as if the output of the alarm isnt powerful enough.  I've tried two different relays and the alarm will not trigger either of them.  I've got no idea what to do

Yes, all 12v and ground connections are secure and proper.  The car didn't come with boot release as standard, but I've installed a solenoid and it works perfectly when connected to 12v and ground.

I've spoke to my alarm supplier and he has recommended that I return the control unit for a replacement, so I'll do that and report back.

Try using a reed relay.  They will use a fraction of the current to turn on and off.  This is assuming that your problem is current related.

You may also look into using a straight transistor to amplify your availible current.  I would definately try the reed relay first!
