I ended up buying a new window module on eBay, installed and everything works. One thing, it's not quite serving the purpose that I had originally envisioned.

Goal:

To have the windows close automatically when the alarm is armed, either passively or actively.

Problem:

There is no "armed" output on the Avital Phoenix. The starter disable output on my alarm is grounded as soon as the key goes to the off position. Not practical to use for obvious reasons.

I thought about using the siren output, but that would try to close the windows when the alarm was armed, the shock sensor triggered, or the alarm goes off, or when unlocked etc etc etc So it's not a good choice b/c of the excessive motor wear + they wouldnt close when armed silently.

What would you do?

can the window module use a pulse to roll the windows up if so use the lock wire form the alarm.

You could wire up a pulse timer relay to the lock output of your alarm. The wire colors are for a dei pulse timer other may be different. BLACK/ white goes to lock wire of alarm. Black and brown wires both go to ground. Red to 12 volts and finally yellow to the roll up trigger of the window module. This would be assuming that your alarm is negative trigger for the locks if it's not then you'll have to cut the blue loop on the pulse timer. If your window module requires a + trigger then just switch the brown wire from ground to 12volts. Once you got it hooked up all you have to do is adjust the timer to give you a long enough pulse to roll the window up. If you want I might have one laying around somewhere I can ship you.

This module needs only a one-time low current ground (which can be immediately disconnected) to engage and do its thing from start to end. So yeah, I believe a single pulse would work.

Thing is, wouldn't it try to close the windows when the alarm passively locks the doors after the engine is started? I believe this function can be disabled, and it might be worth doing so.

Hmmm... maybe be it's possible to use one of the shock sensor wires. When do the wires energize in a dual-stage? The added benefit is that the window module wouldn't be automatic in valet mode...

ps- how does a pulse timer relay work anyway?

This might sound stupid but are you sure that it doesnt have an armed-out wire?

Pull the starter disable relay out of the holder and check the wire. If you do it with the relay in place then you will get a backfeed from the ignition sense wire (pink)

I haven't worked with that particular model alarm, but the above doesn't sound right. Try this....Disarm alarm, start car with key. Turn car off. Wait a couple seconds and attempt to start car. If the car doesn't start, your above statement is true. If it does start, then your ground when armed wire (grey) works the way it should. You will need to split the wire with 2 diodes. Stripe side of diode goes toward the alarm. One wire will go to the starter kill..the other to the window module.

I have a feeling you tapped the window module trigger into the grey wire and the windows would go up anytime the ignition is off. The ignition wire that feeds the starter kill relay rest at ground when the key is off. That 'ground' goes through the relay and triggered the window module. The diodes will make it so 'ground' can only go from the alarm brain toward the starter kill relay, and not the other way around.

Ah..

There already exists a diode wired across 85 and 86 from the alarm install.

But I did not think about the bleed off and neglected to wire a diode between the window module and armed (-) output when tesitng

you only need one diode. cut the grey wire, insert diode with the band towards the alarm side. connect the wire from your window module to the alarm side of the diode as well.

All this does is prevent the back feed through the ignition wire
