could someone please explain in little kid terms how the ?!@# I hook up these pwr locks on my 2000 dodge ram.I have an extreme remote starter with -lock and -unlock.The truck has 5 wire + locks.I have the relays I found the wires but putting power to them only shorts it out (sorta')...This makes no sense to me.Please help.
If it ain't broke...Maybe it should be!

Ok...since you've got two relays first start thinking of one as the lock relay and one as the unlock relay. Here's how you'll wire them.
Unlock relay:
85 - (-) unlock output from your remote starter
86 and 87 - constant fused 12v+
87a - power lock switch side of unlock wire on vehicle(you have to cut the unlock wire first).
30 - motor side of unlock wire on vehicle.
Lock relay:
85 - (-) lock output from remote starter
86, 87 - constant fused 12v+
87a - switch side of lock wire
30 - motor side of lock wire
The reason that the wires were shorting out when you applied power, and that you have to cut the wires in half is because they rest at ground...when the switch is operated it changes one of the wires to positive, which is what you're doing here with the two relays.

Also make SURE you are using S P D T Relays ( Single Pole Double Throw )

If they are NOT SPDT Relays PINs 87 & 87a will be the same
