I was looking at compustart remote starters.  I went to my local dealer and lookes and talked with the ppl there and got prices.  For the best one that they have is 550.00 with alarm and 650 total it I want them to install it.  I found a dealer on ebay that is sellen them for 260. with shipping.  I asked my dealer about this cause I'm thinking of installing it myself.  They told me that there is no warrenty if I buy one and install myself.  I asked the ebay dealer and he said he would warrenty it through him even if I put it in.

So what would you ppl do?  Is it worth the extra money to pay out at the dealer or just buy it and install myself.?  How hard is it too install this type? (I am a small engine tech so pretty sure on my skills with wiring)  Can I only hook up the remostart and door locks wiht out hooken up the alarm part?

I'll betcha 5 bucks you'de get NO WARRANTY....if you had a need for it. reason: he gets no warranty for selling it to you. These "sellers" are breaking there dealer agreement for whoring these units out on flebay. Go to compustars web site, you'll see that they DO NOT sell on the internet. SEE

Be smart with your money, it might not turn out in your favor if you have a problem.

Ya that hade crossed my mind also but it seems that compustar are a top quilty unit and a person shouldn't have a problem.  I would like to buy one from the dealer it's just that you see that kinda price defrence and kinda start to wonder.  Far as the price goes I could buy 2 for the price of one at the dealer.  Have to do some more thinking and thanks for the link I'll go and read on there.  Do they have a email address that I could ask them about this type of deal?  Maybe a guy could get them to give a guy a deal at the dealer?

Bottom line is, like DEI, they are NOT supposed to be sold "over the counter" (uninstalled) I think sometimes thats not fair, cause there are some competent souls out there capable of doing a decent install, ON THE FLIP SIDE....theres alot of idiots as well. These are the guys that have ruined it for you. If you do buy off of ebay or some other site...get some good help doing the install. You don't want to make any mistakes and throw your money down the drain.

The systems are not very hard to install, but I'm an authorized Compustar dealer and installer so I know the ins and outs of this system. For someone who's trying to install this for the first time, the limited directions and wiring schematics that the Compustar has will sure to throw a curve ball at you.
Everytime someone comes into my shop asking me how hard is it to install the 2W8000FM-AS system, I tell them that it takes me approx 4-6 hours to install this system and I know what I'm doing and it something happens to the unit it's my warranty claim, but if something happens to the vehicle, it's my businesses claim. On the flip side, if you try to install it and come back to me with a CPU smelling like a campfire, I'd tell you that I will try to get warranty for you, but chances are you just bought yourself a new CPU. If you damage your vehicle, then that's a bill your going to have to pay.
Don't look at this as saving yourself a couple of hundred bucks on the unit if you buy off eBay, rather how much it's going to cost you if you damage the vehicle's electrical system.

Good Post that's the kinda stuff that ppl on hear need to hear and I agree totaly.  I am a small engine tech, and some ppl try to rebuild there own motors, and some can get the job done but doesn't mean it's right.  I know that if I buy one that once I wanr to sell the truck then I can remove it and have them install it in my next one and down the line and just  pay them for the install.  I think it's just the idea of paying them say 550.00 for a 2wss and me installing it and being able to buy it off of ebay for 260.00.  There's a big difference, I defintitly think it's worth to pay them 650 for the 2wss with them installing it.

I went to my local deal when I bought my carvox and got the wiring code that they printed off of there compustar software.  The carvox one was pretty easy to install it just does not work right.
