I'm installing a remote starter on my 98 yukon  it 's a command start 2400 and I have two wiring questions. First it tells me to find a primary and secondary ignition wire, I have the primary but have trouble finding the secondary ignition wire any help as to color and location would be apreciated. Second the install manual refers to different type of power lock systems the remote unit uses low current Negative pluses and depending on the factory setup it shows the different configuartions as to relays and wiring. Is a 98 Yukon a positive or negitive system and does it us factory relays?

Any help with this will be greatly appeciated

Thanks Rick.

Ignition wiring 98 yukon -- posted image.

Boomer, thanks for the info it was what I was looking for. The white igntion wire is what I was having trouble finding. I'm still having trouble but it is a different problem . I'm installing a comand start 2400 remote starter. When I use the remote to start the Yukon it turns over until it catches but wont stay running the remote starter does a retry and the same thing happens, I'm not sure if anyone has any advise but any is welcome.

Thanks again for the wiring information.

Rick.

You're Welcome Rick.  I think I can help with your problem now. I'm guessing you didn't bypass the passlock II security system. There are different ways of doing it if you havent. The cheapest will be with two relays and some resistors. However that is also probably the most labor intensive. You have to take resistance measurements and then wire in the proper resistors. There are modules you can buy to avoid this. I believe there is one real easy one that you only have to hook up a wire or two called PLDATA. Google search will tell you more about it. There may be a newer product that works the same I'm not sure. The link I am going to supply you with will show you the resistor method and also a type of bypass module.   If in fact you have done this already then perhaps your problem is not connecting to a good tach source. Let me know how you come out.

Boomer, I thought about the tack signal. My orignal hook up was from the coil (white) wire and I programed the unit for eight cylinders. From what I could tell it was geting a good signal. To be sure I hooked up the tack wire to a negitive wire from a fuel injector and set it to 1 cylnder mode with the same result. The tack showed a reading while the remote was trying to start the Yukon.

Boomer, you are right about the passlock system I did not bypass it, frankly I did not know I had this or how it works. Is the passlock ll system on all 98 Yukons?. I will check my installation book and see what I have missed. I will also check the link you sent. It sounds like unless this is bypassed the remote starter won't work.

Thanks again.

Rick.

Dont feel bad about not knowing. I didnt either the first time I did it. Yes it's on all 98 Yukons. It's on all the GM trucks, sport utilities and RWD vans 98 and later. This indeed is your problem. That link will show you step by step what to do if you want to do the resistor method. If not you will have to buy a module and hopefully will get instructions with that. After that you will be up and running.

To test and ensure you have everyting else connected and working properly. Insert the key into the ignition, but do not turn it in any direction. Try to remote start. If you have everything else connected right and programmed accordingly, the Passlock system will read the resistance of the key in the igntion and it will start.
I have not worked with the specific alarm you are using however, just to advise I have been able to successfully install every GM remote start w/o using a tach sense wire, with alarms that have voltage sense capability.
If to still have problems with the key in, you most likely have the alarm programmed improperly, or dont have the correct tach wire.

Boomer, thanks for the linkI will look into more. My 2003 gmc truck has the key with a chip in it expensive to replace but the key for the Yukon looks like the key on my old 95 gmc. how does this passlock ll work?

drvnbysound ,thanks for the info I will try it tonight. So if it does not work with the key in the igntion then my problem is other than the pass lock. I have tried running the tack wire from the white coil wire and set it to 8 cyl mode and have hooked it to the negitive side of the fuel injector and set it to 1 cyl mode same results.

Thanks again guys I will let you know what happens.

Thanks  Rick

It should be a passlock2 system in the Yukon and it will do just what you described if not bypassed. The truck will start but stall right away. A bypass like the DEI 555l is needed...

Turn the ignition key to Run----does one of the lights in the instrument cluster read "SECURITY?" If so, and I'm pretty sure the answer will be yes, there's your PASSLock II.
DEI's 555L, 555LW, 556LW....or Audiovox AS-GM4 are both good, and they program themselves once correctly installed. Avoid any of the outdated modules that involve metering wires and setting DIP switches.
