Installed a Viper 160XV (remote start/keyless entry) into a 2004 Jeep Liberty today. Used the 457CW data bus interface. Direct techs tells me to use 555C or in the alternative 556UW for remote start.  Well I had no 555C's in stock. Never used one before, so i thought 556UW, no problem.  Get everything hooked up, everything is working fine. Remote start cranks up no problem. So, for the hell of it. I go to start the car up reguraly. Put the key into the ignition, car starts, and runs for about 3 sec. then shuts off. The light on the dash board with the key being crossed out if flashing. I think to myself, THIS IS GREAT!!! Anyone know what could cause this, or do I just need to use the 555C instead of the 556UW??????????? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't use DEI bypasses, but in all three diagrams it says the jumper is to be the same ? wrxsti161, try this, take the key out of the 556UW and try to start the Jeep and if it does, then you probably have to wire up the key sense wire to the 555UW otehrwise the Sentry system see's two keys at the same time. The wire is LIGHT BLUE at the BCM pin 8 in a 26 pin plug. You need to hook this up to the GREEN wire on the 556UW.

I've done a few and have always used 556u bypasses, no problem. There's nothing you need to hook up other than red, black and blue.  I've never had to hook up the keysense wire either. Like Jeff says, first verify the key isn't the problem by removing the key in the 556u and starting the car with that.

Sounds like you hooked the pink wire up on the 556u that makes it latch so the jeep is seeing  2 key. Like mike said just use the red, blck and blue wires for the 556u.

No ignition wire should be hooked up, or it sounds like you didn't hook up status output to the 556U. For future reference...the 556C is MUCH easier to use. I wouls recommend keeping thos on hand, plus it makes the customer happy keeping both keys.

on the 556 UW I only used red, black, blue.  tried another test though.  My worry was that the BCM has blown causing the key to lose its memory.  So, what I did next is removed the key from the by-pass. Just set it on the floor. Used the primary key, and tried to start it (I did not want to try to start the car with the key that was in the bypass in case the BCM was frying the chip inside the key. This has happened before by one of my ex-installers) The car started right up, and did not shut off????? WEIRD HUH!!! So I put the by-pass key back in, start it up with the primary key, shuts off again. Test number 2.  remote started the vehicle (with key in by-pass) started up just fine. put the key in the ignition, and put it on RUN to see if it would cut-off, and it didnt. Making this even more mind boggling.  What am I supposed to do now??? Tell the customer they can only start the car using the viper key FAB????? The car is sitting at the shop, and im going to mess with it some more tomorrow.  How stressful, and the people over at DEI are in no hurry to awnser your call. I was on hold for atleast 45 min before I hung up.

Never use the pink ign. wire from the 556U except on Mercedes ML. This wire will keep the bypass on the entire time. The key code only needs to be seen when cranking. I tag the keysense wire to shut the bypass down. I have found on select Chrysler vehicles while inserting the key in the cylinder the key security light will turn on. Vehicle will remain running until it is shut down and restarted. After a couple of tries the car will start. I have also came across this issue with the 555C's when the customer inserts the key in the cylinder but does not hit the brake within a few seconds.
