Hello,

Viper 160XV remote starter installed in 03 Toyota Corolla (w/auto trans.). Unit only cranks starter for 2 seconds, not long enough to start vehicle especially on cold days. Can starter cranking duration be increased. Note: I do not have installation manual for this unit , only the owners manual.

Sounds like whoever installed it used voltage sensing instead of using tach.

yeah like chris said .....hook up the small guage purple w/ white stripe wire to a good clean tach source.

Where theres is a wire there's a way.

Hello,

Trying to reprogram Viper 160XV remote starter installed in 03 Toyota Corolla (w/auto trans.). Goal is to increase starter cranking duration ...as it appears too short to start the vehicle especially on cold days. Already have programming instructions from installation manual download for this model Viper. Instructions are as follows: Ignition on/off . Then hold program button IN until 2 LED flashes/2 horn beeps(to access menu #2) This happens fine. Then press program button 5 times to access function #5 (starter crank duration option). Instead of getting 5 LED flashes/5 horn beeps as described in the instructions ....I only get one short horn beep...a pause.. then a longer horn beep. Im stumped. Can you please walk me step by step me thru the correct sequence for increasing starter duration. (Please note I have already tried TACH LEARNING , just incase tach wire was used....and that didnt program correctly either) Like I said...I am stumped. Starter crank duration is presently only 0.5 seconds and I cant figure out the correct programming sequence to increase this duration.

After you press the program button 5 times hold it down on the sixth and wait for the five LED flashes then use the Fob unlock to set. According to your post you aren't holding it down after the five presses. I just installed one of these myself. 03 Toyota Corolla, Viper 160XV starter? -- posted image.

like sgtmull said, but let me add to this. after the 5 times press and HOLD the button until you are finished programming the unit to the correct starter length. if you release the button anytime during programming, it will think you have completed the programming menu.

Are you sure the tachometer wire is hooked up? The installer may have not used the tach wire, and just set the unit for voltage sensing.

Wait until it is warm out (so the unit will work), and then remote start the car. While the engine is running, hit the gas hard and rev the engine way up......does the remote start shut down?

If tach is hooked up, the over-rev protection should kick in. If it's on voltage sense, revving the engine will have no effect.
