I had this unit installed a couple of days ago on my 97 monte carlo, all wiring was connected properly and was checked again to make sure connections were tight. the led on the antenna is flashing. however the unit will not let me program the remote. the parking lights will not flash to recognize any kind of command. i just hooked the unit up with what came with it... nothing else. the light on the antenna will go solid to recognize the programming mode, but cannot proceed. if anyone has had this problem, please let me know and any help... thank you.

Recheck your wiring with a volt/ohm meter. Unplug everything and confirm that you have everything correct. Things to look for are blown fuses either in vehicle or in the remote starter. Make sure that you have grounded the unit to the vehicle chassis and not the dash. Scrape the paint away and securely ground the remote starter. Also check the two main power leads for power. I remember that some old Monte Carlos had two main battery wires in their ignition harness, but only one was live. The other wire dead ended at the base of the steering column in the large connector plug. Also check to see if you have 12 volts on the thin orange brake wire when the brakes are applied.

thanks, i will check the wiring again with the ohm meter... it is grounded good on the chasis. as for the power wire, i will double check, once i figure out if it does have two power wires and where the other might be. thanks, i will post back.

You and me both. Solid LED, but can never get the remote to program. ProStart's customer service is junk, as is this remote start. Who doesn't ship the remote pre programmed, and who doesn't use the perfectly good valet switch as a program point, not some hood pin or tiny switch on the unit.
JUNK.
I checked the brakes ( both ) and parking lights and both operate as they should. I can actually get the unit into the programming mode kind of, but never get it to hold the remote program.
I guess when I saw the giant AM antenna I should have known I was getting what I paid for.

Are you flashing hood pin correctly?  Parking lights will stay on.  Are you turning the ignition on then off before you press button on transmitter?  I've had nothing but good experiences with ProStart.  In my experience, they are a decent unit.

I've done thousands of these units. They are one of the top 5 units. You may have something wired incorrectly. Is this model an alarm as well? If it is you must put the unit into valet and then out again prior to programming the remote after the initial power up.

Press and hold down the hoodpin for 6 seconds. Release it and wait for the parking lights to come on. When they do quickly press and release the hoodpin again. The parking lights should remain on for 20 seconds. Before the 20 seconds is up turn the ignition to on, with the engine off and then turn the ignition off. Press the lock button on one remote on and off about three or four times until you hear the remote starter module click 5 times. The remotes are now programmed. If this fails to work unplug the remote starter and grab a volt meter. Set the meter to a 12 volt DC scale and put the black probe on the black wire in the 5 pin harness of the remote starter. Put the red probe on one of the red wires in the 6 pin harness with the thick wires. The meter should read 12 volts. Test the other red wire and you should get the same result. Now put the red probe on the orange wire in the 5 pin harness. Press on the brake pedal and the meter should read 12 volts. Turn on the ignition. Put your red probe on the thick yellow wire in the 6 pin harness. You should get 12 volts. Leave the red probe on the yellow wire and leave the ignition on and take the black probe and move it to the gray wire in the 5 pin harness. The meter should read 12 volts. If all checks out, plug in the antenna cable, the 5 pin harness and then the 6 pin harness. Leave the 12 pin harness off for now. Now try to program your remote. If you don't get the correct voltage readings I have listed, post what you did get for each measurement.
