Neutral safety switch

Are there any vehicles that require locating the NSS for remote start, assuming the vehicle has an automatic transmission and the starter wire connection is made at the ignition harness?

Asking a broad question like that...youll get a broad answer. Its not the vehicle that requires locating a neutral safty switch or wire its the R/S unit....Some do, some do not....Most do not. Its a way of making sure the vehicle will not start if left in any gear.

Let me rephrase the question. All the remote starts I install include a NSS interface wire. All the vehicles I install in are automatics. In almost every vehicle, I just ground the wire through a toggle switch. Assuming that I always make my starter wire connection at the ignition harness, does anyone know of a vehicle that might start in gear if I ground the wire instead of connecting to the NSS?

You install DEI stuff? They list some vehicles that you are supposed to hook it up on. Old Dodge trucks I believe....and a couple others. Check the manual.

Yep, they list certain Chrysler and GM models with mechanical neutral safety switches. However, the diagrams you'll find in the manuals don't actually use the NSS wire. Does anyone ever do anything but ground this wire on automatics?

I connect it to the on/off switch that comes in the box. Other side of switch goes to ground. Gives the customer a way to shut down the remote start. Although 99% of customers probably never use the switch, unless they hit it accidently.
