Hi, I need the ignition wire harness  color codes for  a Pontiac Transport 1998 (same as Chevrolet Venture) in order to install a remote starter. I found two web pages on your site, however, the wiring information doesn't match !

https://www.the12volt.com/request/98venture.asp   :

ACCESSORY => BROWN

HEATER/AC =>ORANGE

while on

https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/detail.asp?info=alarm&year=1998&make=Pontiac&model=Montana&ID=18799&type=Alarm

IGNITION 3  => BROWN

ACCESORY =>ORANGE

My remote starter needs to connect to ACCESSORY, should I use the ORANGE or BROWN wire?

Thanks!

Battery is Red and/or RED / White at ignition harness. Starter is Yellow; Ignition is Pink and White; Accessory is Orange. The Brown accessory doesn't need to be powered as is only activates the radio and wipers.

Guys,

 I am completing the installation of an Autostart AS-1200 remote starter on a Pontiac Montana 1998 with a factory alarm. I want to disarm without unlocking the doors prior to remote start; if not my alarm goes off when I remote start (but car still remote starts). Hence I THINK I need to send a 0.8 second negative pulse on the Unlock wire (ORANGE / black in driver's kick panel) prior to starting motor. However, I am worried that I have the wrong Unlock wire since I don't read what Sparkie was suggesting. Specifically I read +0.73VDC relative to 12V constant (from ignition harness, when putting red probe on 12V constant) and voltage rises to +0.94V momentarely when I activate the "unlock" OR the "unlock" on the key fob. Can anybody tell me if this behavior is normal? i.e., is this ORANGE / black wire the right one to use?

Thanks.

I did a RS on a 2003 Montana.  I know the wire metered strange.  I think the pulse from the BCM is so fast that a meter won't update in time.  I think there are two ORANGE / Blks at the BCM so there is a chance you have the wrong one, but I don't remember which one it is.  When I tested the wire I hooked a wire to ground and then just touched it to the ORANGE / blk wire.  It only takes a fraction of a second.  If the pulse is too long the doors will unlock.

You can only meter the lock and unlock wires from by turning the key cylinder. Take your DMM and place the BLACK lead and attach it to ground and take the RED lead and attach it to the target wire. Now turn the key in the tumbler on either driver side or passengerside and see if the DMM registers between 12 volts and 0 volts. if it does, then you have the right wire, if it doesn't, then there will be another ORANGE / BLACK wire ( if I remember correctly) that you have to tag.

Or, do it the really easy way. Grab them in the driver's door harness. There is lots of wire to work with once you pop the boot off the jamb side and wrangle the connector out. Only RED / black, and ORANGE / black in there. The white and blue door locks are also there, right next to arm/disarm.

I have another question. The Pontiac Transport 1998 has multiple ignition wires. Do I really need to "connect" all of them? I didn't  "connect" the white ignition wire and the remote starter and the car is running fine. Here are the details.

I installed an Autostart AS1200. The Pontiac Transport 1998 ignition harness has the following wires: two 12V, one Starter wire, three Ignition wires and one Accessory wire (as per the GM specs):

-12 volts, Red (fused at 60 amps): connected to 12V constant of the remote starter

-12 volts, RED / White (fused at 40 amps): connected to other 12V constant of the remote starter

-Starter, Yellow: connected to STARTER pin of the remote starter

Ignition 1, Pink: connected to the IGNITION pin of the remote starter

-Ignition 2 (HVAC), Orange: connected to the ACCESSORY pin of the remote starter

-Ignition 3 (INSTRUMENT CLUSTER), White: not connected

-Accessory, Brown: not connected

Accoding to http://www.drdetailshop.com/STARTINSTALL.html

"Some vehicles have more than one ignition wire; all ignition wires should be connected when installing a remote starter. Use relays for connecting additional ignition wires. This Second ignition wires must be connected to an additional relay and

can not be tied in with the original ignition wire. Just connect the new relay using the first ignition relay negative trigger wire and connect the B+ to a known good 12V source."
I am concerned that I should provide 12V to the Ignition 3 wire (WHITE), however, I didn't notice anything wrong when remote starting the car or driving it. What do you suggest?

-----------------

For sake of completeness here is the complete list of connections:

remote starter tach pin: connected to Pontiac white wire in big harness front of engine on top of radiator

remote starter brake pin: connected to Pontiac white wire on brake switch (over the brake pedal)

remote starter parking light  pin: connected to Pontiac brown wire on headlight switch

remote starter unlock pin: connected to Pontiac ORANGE / BLACK wire in driver kick panel.

I also installed a hood pin and a valet switch and use all default settings in the remote stater except I enabled the "Secure Lock" function (in order to disarm without unlocking prior to remote start).

I know that on newer GM trucks, if you don't power up the white, you'll have a variety of troubles, possibly including transmission damage.
I never bother to power up the brown-----as sparkie says, I want my radio off during remote start, and I don't want my wipers stuck in ice or running dry.
I'm not sure what might happen if you don't power up the white second-ignition wire, but I would strongly advise that it be hooked up.
