I am interested in installing a remote starter in my 2006 Ford Five Hundred.  I was considering using the Ford Silver system because I don't need an alarm.  What my question is...Do you still need to "tap" into the door lock wiring or does the Ford system use the existing keyless entry?  In otherwords can I just program the new Ford key fobs the same way you would program a replacement or will I have to do a complete install and splice some door lock wires?

Thanks,

Mike

The "OE" stuff might be a tad bit easier to install........butone thing I guarantee you won't like. The range!

It should be "plug and play" BUT....might not be! Get a unit with some range. Thre are plenty to choose from

see how far your keyless will go. decide if your happy with that distance. If not get an aftermarket.

Ford makes a powercode code alarm system. It comes in gold, silver and bronze. It is made by code alarm so.. its not that great. I like the DEI stuff. The range on the Ford is about 500 feet. It is a very expensive system. You are better off going to Best Buy or circuit city and getrting a viper 130 or something. I dont think it is worth the money.

To add to this, it's not just a plug and play either. There are about 50 wires to hook up on the OEM remote starter's/keyless entry/security systems.

Thanks everyone I think you helped my decision.  I have decided to go with something other that the Ford system.  I'm sure everyone has their personal preferences but I am open for suggestions on brands/models.  I don't want an alarm, but a small 2 way would be nice.  I don't like the big LCD screens that some come with.  I was looking at the Audiovox PRO 900 or the APS 786T.  Before anyone yells, I know that the 786T has an alarm, but I was not intending on using it.  Any feedback on those two models or does anyone have anything similar they suggest?

Thanks,Mike

The Audiovox 786T is a combo unit remotestart/alarm.I would use the Audiovox 686T which is just a remote start with lots of options like illuminated entry and horn alert for the remote start signal. The letter " T " on the Audiovox model means it has a telematics port. You can get a satellite module which plugs into the remote start module and allows you to unlock the doors and activate your remote start from any telephone. There is also no monthly fees with module also.

What other parts am I going to need to override the factory transponder?  I think I have decided on the Audiovox 686
