i'm working on a 96 Integra and need to find a wire that will give me a 12 volt positive after the car is started. the R/S i'm installing is not looking for a tach but rather a 12v positive. the manual says look for a alternator charging wire or oil pressure wire. i've tried all the wires at the alternator and didn't find it. anyone??

Typically a voltage sensing system will just monitor voltage from it's own +12V Input or Ignition wire, it just looks to see if there is an increase...which would be there when the alternator is working.
What kind of system is it?

yeah this system doesn't have voltage sense either. it is Royal Guard made by Huatai or something like that.

OK, I am not at all familiar with that system, and without a manual/diagram, I am just guessing. Have you tried hooking it to the ignition wire?

manual/diagram only say it needs to be connected to a charging wire/oil pressure sensor and needs to see a 12v positive when started. i was thinking of hooking it up to accessory wire. i don't know if that works, but i will try later when i get home. for now i'm trying to get as much info as possible.

Any + wire in the vehicle will have a voltage increase when the alternator is operating. I would say to try it with a switched hot, be it accessory or ignition.
Keep us posted.

"bobk" said not use a wire that is 12v+ during crank; so i'm guessing the accessory wire would be ok because it doesn't have power during crank. i'm gonna try that wire when i get home to see if it works.

Got to the alternator and test all the wires on the plug, one of them only has 12v  when the engine is running.
