Does anyone know how to wire there own remote start? I use the remote start diagram in the relays section to make a wiring diagram of my own. https://i1.tinypic.com/s1lzs1.jpg if you know how to wire a remote start, can you look this over and see if it will work.

I would strongly recommend purchasing a unit designed for this task. It will have more safety features, a timer, over-rev protection, transmitters, etc built in. There are a ton of brands available and even a few that would carry a warranty if you put it in yourself.

The reason i dont want to is because i want to use this as my only ignition and starter source. I would have to eliminate the timer and rev feature anyway to accomplish this. Anytime I would use it I would be next to the car and I am going to have a kill switch in the car so that should take care of the over revving. I did want to use an aftermarket system, but without heavily modifying one of these systems, I would not be able to accomplish what I am after. Do you know who does the write up section that talks about relays?

Hi hockeydude, I recommend using an aftermarket unit and no modifications would need to be made to it to accomplish what you're trying to do. You will still need to add relays to keep 12V+ to the ignition and accessory leads once the remote start has disengaged and you may want the parking lights to stay on until you enter the vehicle. These relays can be controlled by the remote transmitter and a kill switch in the vehicle. As soon as I find the time, I'll draw a digram and post it here or in the relay section. In the meantime, have a peek at the other applications on this page. Chances are you will figure it out before I have a chance to draw a diagram.

do you mean just use a relay instead of the key ignition?

You would be using the remote starter, relays, and switches to replace your "key ignition" switch. You need to create just one latch to energize all the relays needed for each lead that you want to maintain 12V+ on after the remote start disengages. This latch can be activated by the remote start unit, a switch in the vehicle, or by an output from the alarm/keyless entry. I'd suggest using the latter two. You will want the hood pin, your kill switch, and an output from the alarm/keyless entry/remote start unit (whichever you use) to disable the latch. This will allow the vehicle to stay running after the remote start duration expires and allow you to turn off the vehicle via the remote, kill switch, and the hood pin. You may want other switches, sensors, etc. to shut it down as well for safety and they could be easily added.

Koo, I figured you would. This would be the safest and easiest way of accomplishing what you described. You could even have two separate latches, one for ignition and one for accessory. This way you can kill the engine, but still listen to the radio if you have it on an accessory lead. You could also have an ouput just to engage the accessory latch so you won't have to start it.
