Just for a heads up- I had a come-back-after 13 months- was on an ’05 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel- the R/S brain box had a hole melted in it- the engine starter ran until it quit- Truck was under warranty- I thought owner was dead meat- he would have to pay for starter replacement due to fault of remote starter- But dealer took care of it- wow. Anyway, the R/S tech says that this truck is known to have had problems- that ANY remote starter installed on this should always have an external relay put in to run the blower motor.

I pulled up the wiring diagram for this truck- he is correct in that it does not have any relay anywhere in the circuit- so all 25 or more amps of the blower motor must go through the brain box when blower is on high speed- I was not aware when I installed the unit that this was the case- nowhere in any wiring diagram, or in any instructions was there a note or even suggesting that I test for amp draw. I say the unit should have blown the 30 amp fuse first- before melting a hole inside the brain box- so therefore it is a design issue. There was also an issue where Dodge trucks in ’03 and ’04 were recalled for blower motors burning up the 40 amp ignition wiring- according to the tech-

I am asking if any of you other installers have ever experienced this- and what other vehicles have massive amp draw (don’t use relays) when dealing with the blower motors- and how many of you actually check for systems without relays prior to your install- Thanks for a great forum

Had that happen to a Relay, which shorted the circuit.

Dealer blamed us, but warrantied it.
Now We use Outboard Relay Units.  We Always replace the Accessory Relay with 45amp when we do Dodge Trucks.

There are a few wiring Guides that mention it now.

The ram's have had a large recall concerning the blower motor. They replace the wiring going to and from the ign cylinder. That is why they warrantied it.
