A friend of mine has a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder convertable with what she believes is a factory alarm.  In the past, at times when the alarm was activated (doors locked with fob) the alarm would sound once in a while for apparently no reason.

Recently, this happens much more frequently - nearly every time the car alarm is activated.  I am wondering if a door switch might be bad/wet, but am not sure since it is a factory alarm.  Does anyone have any suggestions on what the cause might be and what/how to check?  She does not want to replace the alarm with another system if at all possible, but would like to repair the factory unit or switch(es) if possible.  Thanks, Tim

it may be something as simply as a door latch out of adjustment. take a look down the vehicle at the fender and make sure all doors are sitting flush with the rest of the body. occassionally my wife's honda latches get out of adjustment (sitting to far out) and it will cause her viper will act like a door is open and the interior light will stay on too. if it is completely intermitent it will be harder to troubleshoot. also you might want to check your voltage at the battery with the vehicle off and see if you maybe have a low battery that the alarm could be reacting to. just a couple of suggestions but might be something completely different. good luck and hope this helps.

bmwpwner,

Thanks a lot for the suggestions!  It makes sense that the latch(es) could be off a little - I have seen that before on other cars.  I never would have thought about the battery voltage... I will check that and see what I find.  Again, thanks for the ideas!  Tim
