My 2001 Jetta has a factory alarm. VW's buttons on the key are over-sized and sensitive. 3 out of 5 times I arm the car taking the key out of the ignition and It is starting to get extremely irritating.

Is there any easy (or not so easy) way, either reprogramming or adding something to the alarm to ideally add a 5sec delay when the key is removed from the ignition that would prohibit alarm activation.

If that is not feasible, can this alarm be altered to activate only when the Arm button is pressed twice. Again, I would prefer to reprogram the alarm, but I can break out the solder tool kit if need be to add something to allow this.

I was hoping to keep the alarm stock and have looked around the internet on how to do this. I found some mention of using VAG-COM to reprogram the alarm , but there was no mention of what changes could be made. (I suspect it was just another way  to program the key's remote chip to the car)

Ask the service manager at your local VW dealership if it can be programmed with their VAG-COM. Otherwise, you are out of luck.
