Any ideas on adding alarm, or using exsisting alarm on truck to add motion sensor on trailer.

The trailer is wired for 12 volt through the trailer harness, only need it to be active when trailer is hooked up.

If you are using a mercury switch I would recommend running another 2 wires from the truck to the trailer, one that provides a good ground from the vehicle and the other as the trigger to alarm. You did not list what make and model the alarm is, nor did you list vehicle information. If your alarm offers a negative trigger input, you would just hook into that wire.

You may also want to add a battery back-up siren. If the trailer is dieconnected from the truck any sensor or switch will no longer work. If you hook up a back-up battery siren, disconnecting the wires will cause the siren to sound unless it is turned off first. Depending on what is in the trailer, it may also be beneficial to install a battery inside the trailer and charge it off the truck with a separate trailer harness. You can then install a complete alarm system in the trailer. This way it will be protected even when separated from the truck.

sounds like a really good idea,and to add onto having a solo alarm on the trialer itself, you could also have a mercury switch to alert if trailer was raised preparing to be hauled...and maybe a radar sensor(motion detector) and possibly a pin switch for the door(s)

Thanks for the great tips. The trailer has a battery that opertaes the runaway brakes. So should have no problem getting it wired. Thanks again
