My stepson just bought an 01 Impreza RS.  It has a factory keyless remote module (Code I believe) with an Avital Avistart 4300 piggy-backed on to it.  The remote doesn't say Avital on it but I believe it to be the original (I downloaded the manual from directed.com).

The system doesn't work.  Though initially the LED was lit and know it's not.  Dunno why - all I've done so far is check fuses.

However when you disconnect a battery lead the parking lights go into a flashing pattern.  I cleared this by shorting the programming button lead off the factory module.

I'm looking for some guidance on how to troubleshoot the Avital module.  If someone had an installation guide they could share that would be sweet.

For some reason when I try and search here I keep getting a blank page instead of search results.

Thanks - Mike

Sheesh. Never mind on the manual - I just did another search and found a link in a previous post.

Since I haven't read yet I don't have any specific questions other than:  Is it common to just add a security module in parallel with an existing module?  In this case the oem code system...

Avital 4300 is remote start with secuirty. So it is common to add your aftermarket system with your stock alarm. People just use the aftermarket remote because it gettings better range and can remote start.

of course the Avital is capable of doing keyless as well so why not scrap the Code unit and have the 4300 do everything?

Thanks fellas.

Kevin-

I may do that but first I have to figure out why the Avital isn't working.  So far the hard part has been getting the car, my stepson and me together long enough to do a little trouble shooting.

I did flip through the install manual last night and this morning before work did the sequence for looking at the alarm history.  Lo and behold the led blinked two different patterns.  So it appears that the processor is alive.

Once we tear into it I'll probably need to pick your brains again.

Mike
