Is the software compatible with a Viper 5000? I know that the Bitwriter is but after reading the "small print" in the Install guide of a friend's 791 XV, I noticed that it mentioned both the Bitwriter and programming software. Makes more sense to me to buy the software than the Bitwriter, if it will work. Thanks, Steve

no, Clifford "G" series and Viper use different systems... just use the Bitwriter... i'm pretty sure it was referring to the Bitwriter version ( i think we are at 2.4 or 2.5 now )

Here's the statement on page 32 of the 791 XV User's Manual.

"The black 3-pin port is provided for personal computer programming of the unit. The unit can also be programmed using the Bitwriter (p/n 998T). When using the optional PC Interface module, or hand-held programmer, it is possible to configure any and all of the programmable functions as well as lock the Transmitter/Receiver and System Features Learn Routines so that unauthorized users cannot change the configuration or program transmitters to the unit."

The 5000 user Manual and Install Manual doesn't have these statements?????  Am I reading more into it or is this a mis-print? Cliffnet software and Viper 5000 -- posted image.

OK, got it. Where's the best place to buy the Bitwriter? Kgerry said that he thinks that's it's @ 2.4 or 2.5. All the ones I see on eBay are with version 2.3.
