OH BOY!!!  Did I have problems programming this on a 05 Cherokee.  When I called tech support, they told me to unscrew the bypass kit and take out the circuit board.  The black transponder thats on the board was to be placed in between the key cylinder  and this black antenna thats around the cylinder(you'll notice the gap there) when programming.

Also another tip was to take apart 1 of the keys, place this first key in the cylinder holding the circuit board in the key head, put in the second key, then remove the circuit board from the first key and get ready. This is important:  place the transponder from the bypass kit in the gap at the key cylinder BEFORE you place the empty key in the cylinder and turn it.

After it was programmed, I placed the black loop around the key cylinder and have had no problems since.  Also programming the transponder might take like 20 seconds, I think the manual said 10 sec.

Good luck, Frank

sorry,  misread it alittle.  I know I held the first key in there for more than 5 seconds though.  The manual says no more than 15 seconds. So try 10 seconds for the first key.  Also I remember that the owners manual of the car had the programming instructions also.  So maybe its worth looking it up in the owners manual and see if anything is different.  Its the same programming as adding a 3rd key. Also the cherokee had no "security light" it only had a message center, so I really didn't get anything until the chimes.  I think while trying to get the module to bypass, the car wouldn't always go into programming mode, so to clear that problem I started the car turned off the car and removed the key.  then I started over. Try the few things I mentioned, hope they help.

You may have one of a variety of problems. Try this first. Remove the circuit board from the module case. The transponder chip is glued to one corner of the board. Remove the one screw that holds the theftmodule and ring around the ignition cylinder. Gently pry the ring from the key cylinder and have it loose just at the edge of the key opening. It is held by plastic hooks around the ring. Insert the first key into the cylinder and turn it on for 5 seconds and then turn it off. Do the same with a second different key but leave it turned on. The chimes and light will come on for a few seconds and then they will go off. Wait for a while, (sometimes 5 -10 secs) and the chimes will sound again or the light may just come on. When they do, turn the key off. Quickly remove it and pull the plastic transponder ring/module off the key cylinder so that it hangs a few inches below the key cylinder. Hold the transponder on the circuit board in the center of the ring and use one of the first two keys to turn the igntion on. The chip in the key can't be read because it is too far away from the ring. Leave the ignition turned on for at least 15 seconds. If this doesn't work repeat the whole procedure. Rushing any steps doesn't work. It is also possible that you have a defective kit. If the kit has been used on another vehicle, it CAN'T be used on another vehicle. If this is the case, you need a new one. A last concern could be that the vehicles BCM has been locked by the manufacturer or dealer. This is done to curtail theft by having someone code extra keys. The dealer can use their scan tool to unlock the BCM to allow extra keys and in this case a module to program. Using the key in the ignition cylinder to power all circuits with the transponder ring removed is effective. Some Dodge trucks are finicky and like both their ignition and accessory wires powered to program a key. Don't forget to have the circuit board completely unplugged when trying to program it.

chryslers have one of the strongest passive antitheft systems i have ever delt with. i used to work at a jeep dealer and never had any problems with programming a transponder no matter who the made it. if you cannot get the vehicle into programming mode the vehicle might be in a lock down in which case it will not let you program a transponder for 1 hour. as far as i know the dealer cannot program a lock down and the only way to get it out of lock down is leaving the key on for 1 hour. make sure the battery does not go dead or you will have to restart.  the skim module goes into lock down when the dealer technician imputs the wrong skim code during a replacement key programing, but the tech has to imput the wrong code 3 times.
