Hey, I'm new to the forum, it looks very helpful.  I'm currently trying to figure out what remote start system I want.  I know I want one of the 2 way systems with the LCD.  I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am, it has the security light when I start it up.  I was looking at the Hornet 564T and the CrimeStopper EZ-84.  Now the thing that I am not sure on is what transponder I need to go along with my car.  I am looking for something that will interface with my keyless entry for the doors and trunk.  Will I have to buy seperate units or will it just be one unit?  Are there relays I have to buy to hook up the door locks or does the transponder just hook up to the existing wiring?  I'm trying to learn how all of this goes so if something I say is not correct please correct me so that I can be further educated on the setup of these systems.

Thanks

Curt Calhoun

Just an add on to the last post I had, I am looking for one that does not require an extra key being left in the car.

Use the GMDL-BP for this vehicle. It will control the door locks, trunk & give you Passlock II bypass all in one unit.

Thank you for the reply.  These are vehicle specific and it doesn't matter what alarm/convenience system I get, it will work with right?  And are any remote start system brands any better than others?  Thanks

Jeff, have you installed a gmdl-bp into a grand am and had the door locks work? I am just curious because I had called trilogics and the dude I talked to said it wouldn't do the locks or trunk. If it does please let me know, thats a huge time saver. Sorry to steal your post man, and on the remote starts I am biased in avoiding the crimestoppers(bad expereinces), try looking into these units I have found them to very reliable, easy to program etc......

I looked at the ultra smart units, are their any online retailers?  When I went to that site it told me that the GM-SL is what is compatible with my vehicle.  Are the GM-SL and the GMDL-BP the same thing just made by different people?  Are there any advantages to one over another?  I also saw something about a GM-SL2 but it doesn't come out until november?  Would there be an advantage to waiting for that unit?

The GMDL-BP will control the door locks and trunk on the 2001 and 2002 Grand Am, but the car MUST have factory keyless for it to work. I have used them for it and yes they do make it a little easier. Worst case you hook up a couple of extra wires and maybe a relay on these cars. The wires are easy to get in the driver's kick panel anyway.
