RS Problems, 2000 Alero, tach

Good afternoon folks...

Having some problems with the wife's car - I installed a new 1W900FM-s into her car. This is a base model Alero 4dr (pwr locks) - in other words: NO Passlock / alarm. As a matter of fact, I've been using generic (hardware store) key copies for the last 3 years.

Install went fine (i've done 8 RS now, and 1 other Compustar), except for the tach wire - The white wire that should be tach wire doesnt read properly on my Fluke. On vAC, this lead doesnt alternate with RPMs.

I went to the ign coil itself, took a lead from there, and the RS would work. However, at this point it would only start the car, and then stall out very shortly after (engine would start, rev to 1200rpm as normal, but on the way down it would stall).

I reset the brain (disconnected for 30 seconds), reset teh "tach learn", and tried again. At this point, the unit would not even ATTEMPT to start the car (no pk lights or relays would activate). Although the remote would still work the power locks.

I'm aweful confused... I JUST installed another new 1w900fm-s in My 99 ranger 3 DAYS ago, and thats perfect. Possible that I rec'd a bad unit?
