I am installing a remote car starter on a vehicule equipped with a Clifford AutoImmobilzer anti-start system(See link below for wiring diagram). After speaking to their support people they instructed me to use 2 relays at point A & B. Firstly what kind of relay is recommended, should I use one which has a diode across the coil? Note I only have access to a constant +12v supply. Is there anything special i should know about?

I am also having trouble understanding which wires to connect where in the relay. From what I understand continuity is made between terminal 87 & 30 right? If this is the case the ignition & starter wire should be cut after the output from Clifford system and one end should be connected to 30 and the other end to 87, right? The 12v should be connected to terminal 85, right? and the output from the started should be connected to 86, right? 87a should not be used, right?

Is there anything else I should consider here?

I reviewed the clifford wiring diagrams.  If you are installing it withe the Remote Starter than you will have to connect those wires to Ignition and starter output.  On the other hand, you don't need the Clifford Immobilzer because the Remote Starter comes with one, is it?  The relay connections that you typed above is correct.

Good luck.

I am getting so many different ways to apply relays in my case that I am totally confused. Firstly I am not an expert when it comes to wiring. Having said that here is my situation. I am installing a Remote-Car-Starter on a vehicule equipped with a Clifford AutoImmobilizer engine-cut-off system(view link below for wiring diagram). After speaking with their support staff they provided me the following diagrams for each relay. Now this info is inconsistent with what I am reading on this site with regards to how relays work and how others have applied them. From what I gather this should be the application: do not use 87a, the ignition/starter wire should go to 30 & 87, output wire from remote starter that puts out a negative goes to 86 and a fused 12v constant power goes to 85, continuity will be made between terminal 87 and 30. Could somebody please point me in the right direction please. This may be an important detail, the support person tould me to use two 12v bosch 30/40amp care/relay. What is the "CARE"? Is there a difference?

Should I being using a relay with a DIODE across the coil? If so how does this change my setup?

Here are the diagrams that the support people gave me.

Any help and clarification would be greatly appreciated.

What is a "CARE" relay & how do they differ from SPDT?
