My friend bought two hawk keyless entry and remote start alarm units from ebay for his beater car and truck and he said for the 34 dollars each you couldnt go wrong. So i decided i needed one for my 92 chevy s10 commuter truck so what the hell. I installed it which worked out great. Doors lock and unlock, rear window pops open and the truck starts and shuts off with remote. Love it. All of a sudden after cleaning up the garage and testing the remote start i noticed that i cant be more then 10-12 feet away. First i thought i forgot to plug in the antenna so i start looking it over and noticed there is no antenna. It didnt come with one. In the instructions it doesnt even state where to plug in an antenna if it was suppose to have one, this is going to wiz me off. What the **** can you do with a remote start if you need to start it no more then 5-10 feet away.

Now my question is does this unit have an antenna and it just didnt come with it. Does anyone know. Is there a way i can add to the range by soldering in a wire or something to help. yes i went the cheap way and got screwed but the range is the only bad thing everything works great. All the help would be appreciated alot.

Never heard of it.... the dangers of e bay.... well usually on the cheap ones tere is a small black wire hanging out the site of the brain... run that up as far as you can... if there isn't one, just place the brain in an open spot.. not surrounded by steel ect... or crack the unit open and see if it is coiled up inside...

Hymer thanks so much i will look into to see if the wire is coiled inside. If not any other ideas besides buying a different one.

To get longer range hold the remote against your chin, hold one arm extened out to the side at a right angle to your body and then hit the transmit button. You do get a longer range but look kinda goofy doing it remote start range/distance -- posted image.

Hawk, wow now that is a blast from the past. When I was still in the business we actually brought this brand in to give it a shot. I think they are now defunct. We stopped selling them because the range was horrible, better than the 10' you are saying, but still pretty bad, never more than 50'. On a positive note we never had one come back for any complaints other than range.

Hymer has already stated what to look for, the little wire hanging out of the brain is the antenna, get that as high and straight as you can and keep it away from all metal possible.
