Just bought a ***Viper 791 XV***to put into my 95 Prelude SI, 2.3.  No previous experience...but no dummy either.

Would like to save $ and properly install myself.  Could someone tell me where to begin?  Tutorials, guides, etc.?  Tools, materials? Thanx.

Wow crazy thing is that was my first alarm install... great car eh.. but any how, for tools it depends on the person.. I used a power probe test light, (it can test for grounds and 12 volts) , Crimper, tripper (for the wires), pending on your want of a clean look or done fast, most people down here use t-taps, but when its my car and I want it nice i use solder, and heat shrink, electric tape is nice to have, drill, uni-bit (step bit), c/a glue, and a good amount of crimps, taps, scotch locks,etc....

Now on to the alarms, trust me once you do one remote start it gets easier...

1) finding wires (is actually the best way to determine where you want to mount the brain, appox. how long the wires will have to run, and also (of course) finding all the wires (+12v, Acc, Ign. starter, etc)

2) find a place to mount the siren and run the wire into the car, with that alarm its red and black, black is ground and red is to the brown wire of the alarm

3) White is +12volts,  BLACK/ white is the starter,  Black yellow is ign.,  yellow is acc., make sure to test these wires cause its NEVER a garantee that the wiring guides are correct..

4)

Keysense blue/white  -  ignition harness
Power Lock BLACK/ white  -  passenger kick, 10 pin plug
Notes: Peel back foam on kick panel to locate harness.
Also located at the factory security plug located to the left of the steering column. the plug is gray in color.
Power Unlock BLACK/ red  -  passenger kick, 10 pin plug
Notes: Peel back foam on kick panel to locate harness.
Also located at the factory security plug located to the left of the steering column. the plug is gray in color.
Lock Motor WHITE/ red  5wi lock control unit in driver door
Unlock Motor yellow/red  5wi lock control unit in driver door
Parking Lights+ RED / black  +  harness at fuse box
Parking Lights- blue/red  -  factory security plug
Notes: The factory security plug located to the left of the steering column. the plug is gray in color.
Hazards same as turn signal wires
Turn Signal(L) GREEN/ blue  +  steering column
Turn Signal(R) GREEN/ YELLOW  +  steering column
Reverse Light GREEN/ black  +  driver kick, harness to rear
Door Trigger BLACK/ white  -  instrument cluster plug
Notes: Located in gray 14 pin plug above hood release handle in far left corner of underdash.
Also located at the factory security plug located to the left of the steering column. the plug is gray in color.
Dome Supervision use door trigger wire
Trunk/Hatch Pin GREEN/ black  -  instrument cluster plug
Notes: Located in gray 14 pin plug above hood release handle in far left corner of underdash.
Also located at the factory security plug located to the left of the steering column. the plug is gray in color.
Hood Pin yellow/red  -  factory security plug
Notes: The factory security plug located to the left of the steering column. the plug is gray in color.
Trunk/Hatch Release N/A
Power Sliding Door N/A
Factory Alarm Arm factory remote only
Factory Alarm Disarm factory remote only
Disarm No Unlock factory remote only
Tachometer blue  ac  tach test conn. on pass. strut tower
Wait to start N/A
Brake Wire GREEN / WHITE  +  brake pedal switch

5) testing door lock wires for neg trigger is a snap, just use your probe or muti-meter and make sure you use the door lock switch to find the neg. pulse....

6)The brake wire is connected to a wire just above the brake pedal, since its a pos. use test light and probe to see if it will show 12v when you push on the brake pedal

7)Tach wires have an AC alternating current, I use a multi meter to find the wire this car is pretty easy, just gittin the wire into the car to the brain is the sort of hard part...

8)I usually mount my hood pin, with a pin switch. but you can find the wireif you want

9)Door trigger wir will send a neg. pluse to set off the alarm, from the alarm attach the green wire of the main harness to the door trigger wire in this case is the BLACK/ white wire from the instrument cluster plug.... (the purple wire on the alarm is only for 12v door trigers, never connect both the green and purple cause it may cause falsing of the alarm

10) Parking lights, this actually worries me the most for new installers including if they have test lights, NEVER shoot 12v or ground into the supposed wire until its competely confirmed that it is the parklight wire....use the parklight switch and turn on on click while probing a one wire at a time, to find the wire... in this case which is a 12v RED / black, make sure that the jumpers of the alarm are set to the correct setting for 12v parking light the manual will explain that.. connect the white wire off the main alarm harness to the park light wire found...

11)key sense is important since the fact that only the factory remote can disable the factory alarm, the key sense will disable the factory alarm upon remote start, since its a neg. triggers you have to connect the - status output wire from the alarm to this wire so it will give the wire a ground when running in remote start....

12) programming the tach isexplained in the installation manual.... if I missed anything let me know but other then taht, take it slow and have fun....

Thats SIK!!!!

make sure of one thing... if a theif can see your wiring, you have a glorified keyless entry install you paid WAY too much for.  run wiring into factory loom/tape up when possible.  If you can unplug the brain or cut the ground... alarm disabled...  That's a pretty easy car to do, don't lose to t-taps or scotchlocks on your own car... I try not to use them on customer's cars.  And... find a hood lock... that keeps your siren/12+ constant safe.  You can inprovise with a master-lock and some cable/clamps, or probably get a custom ordered one.  The trick to security is to think like a theif, if you look up and see only black taped wires... where's the brain? is it in view?  there's your tips and tricks.

If you paid $1 for the install then you got what you paid for... It's your RIDE, don't settle!
