Hello all, I like to consider myself pretty good at troubleshooting these kind of things but I am totally stumped.
This is a Crimestopper CS-2016FM system installed in a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (3.1L V6).
The issue is that the car won't start using the remote start. Everything else (locks, alarm, etc) is working perfectly. When remote starting all the accessories come on as they should, but the car does not even attempt to start. I have it wired with a tach wire (but have tried tachless as well) and all the car does is sit there with 8 volts on the starter wire. My initial test was to start the car normally and then use the "continuous run" feature to keep the car running after the key was removed. That works fine.
I removed the starter disable relay / system thinking that maybe there was an issue there, but still the same results.
As I mentioned the starter wire only has 8 volts on it and I'm sure this isn't enough to charge the coil in the starter to engage the starter motor. All of the power wires going into the the brain have 11.5 volts and all of the accessory / ignition wires have 11.5 volts, only the starter wire has the 8 volts.
To complicate things more I cut the wire between the brain and the main starter wire and checked voltage on the brain side when remote starting, and with the wire is disconnected I get 11.5 volts. I can take a B+ wire and jump it to the starter side of the cut wire and it cranks as it should.
I pulled the cover off of my brain and don't see or smell anything burnt and all the relays appear to be clicking over at the proper time.
To go even further, one at a time I disconnected the other accessory and ignition wires to see if there was 12 volts back feeding into my brain when the remote start was engaged and they are all dead as they should be.
To me this sounds like an issue with the brain, I think I've covered my bases fairly well. My problem is that when it's disconnected from the starter the brain does put out 12 volts like it should making me think there could be a problem with my wiring somewhere. Unfortunately I'm a DIY'er and don't have the luxury of just 'swapping it out' to check without mailing it back to Crimestopper with a $15 'warranty fee'.
So if anyone out there has run into a similar situation or can think of any other troubleshooting steps to try before I give Crimestopper a call for an exchange I would REALLY appreciate it! It's starting to get cold in Iowa!
Thanks in advance,
Tom

I didn't mention this above but this car has no kind of 'key security' that needs bypassed. And also this just started happening out of the blue when I first tried to start using it again this year. I will keep posting anything else I think of that might help!
Thanks again,
Tom
