A customer asked me if I could install a remote starter in his 2000 Grand Cherokee, but have it remote start using the factory remote. I generally use the DEI Valet 561R. I'm not sure how I would go about doing this, or if it is even possible. Any help would be much appreciated!

Use the H1/4 negative activation input. Wire it to the door locks and set for 2 or three pulses. That way when he presses the lock button on his factory key fob it will remote start the vehicle. You will probably have to get the negative activation from the motor wires in this vehicle and it would definitely be easier to just sell him on using the DEI remotes because he would increase range plus have the code hopping technology.

Currently working on a 2000 Grand Cherokee. Installed a DEI 561R & a JDL-PK bypass. The unit remote starts just fine, but only seemingly when it wants to. The problem is this: when I go to remote start it, the vehicle will crank for probably less that 1/10 second like it received a signal to shutdown. The unit will then shut down and try to remote start again, and its really a game of chance when it wants to r/s "fully". Every wire is hooked up properly and verified. Tach signal is reached through the brown fuel injector wire. I noticed the diagram on this site says that I should grab the tach from (PCM right Rear Connector Engine using 1 Cylinder Setting), but I grabbed it from that injector as it was easier. Anyone know if this could be why its not starting properly sometimes?? Could this be why it very very VERY briefly r/s's? I don't see how it could be as it will r/s sometimes and stay running perfectly. Is it a bad 561R??
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Not sure if this will help or not, but I had a 561R give similar issues.
Load test the battery, the car I had the issue in must have had a bad cell. Put in a new battery, haven't seen it back since.

Temporarily reprogram your unit for voltage sense, and see if it works----that'll tell you if you're on the wrong tach wire or not.
Also, many remote starters have a diagnostic feature, which tells you the reaso for the last time it was shut down.

I never have any luck with using the Jeep's injector wire with for the tach signal on Dei rs.

your problem lies in chysler's ignition system.. batch fire systems never give a good tach signal (batch fire meaning it fires 2 cylinders at the same time) .. try setting the tach threshold to the low setting. sometimes this works, but for reliability's sake just grab it at the pcm on the firewall. might be more of a hassle to get to, but it'll work everytime

The r/s is telling me that the reason for shutdown is (via six LED flashes) (+/-) Shutdown. What does that mean? I have the Jeep remote starting via three pulses from the lock button on the factory fab...could that be why its shutting down sometimes?
