I had a friend ask me to do a remote start in her new 2007 Sportage. I don't think I have done a Sportage in a few years. Directechs only has up to 2005. Anyone know if the 2007 has changed since then?
Also, according to Cars.com a transponder key is Standard on all models. Is that correct?

I don't have a lot of information for you, but I have a few observations:
--Kia has been bought up by Hyundai, and by now I believe all of their products are cousins.
--I worked on either a 2005 or 2006 Sportage (can't remember which year), and it was essentially a Hyundai Tucson.
Factory remotes go dead when running, but factory arm/disarm is now possible (and easy). The hazards even flash with your aftermarket lock and unlock, which is cool.
--Up to 2006, the Tucson doesn't have a transponder; at least not in the US. And the Sportage I worked on didn't have one either.
--So far, it seems that Hyundai has only fitted transponder keys on their two most-expensive models: The Azera and Entourage.
The transponder keys look very different, and the key has a groove cut into it, rather than cutting the edges off like a regular key.....it looks very fancy, and you should be able to identify it easily.
--The Tucson was newly introduced for 2005.
--Going by the fact that Hyundai hasn't been using transponders in the less-expensive cars.........and that the Tucson was all-new for 2005............I'd gamble on no transponder, and no significant design changes for 2007.
