compustar 2WFM-AS problems,05 ram diesel

Hello,I recently paid big bucks to have a professional installer install a compustar 2 way alarm remote starter in my 2005 dodge ram diesel,automatic,no factory alarm truck.I am having a few problems that the installer doesnt have any solutions for.The main problem is when I start the truck with the remote,it waits 15 seconds for the glow plugs,and then the starter turns over briefly but the truck doesnt start.The remote beeps and shows that the truck is running even though it is not running.If the truck is hot it will start but in the morning when it is cold it never starts,but the remote always says that the truck is running.The second problem is a minor annoyance,when I get into the truck the alarm relays "buzz" as the dome light slowly goes off,there must be a way to eliminate that(according to the installer I will have to live with it?). thanks !!!!!

Thanks for the reply,I have the black key,I didnt realize he had to tie into the glowplugs,can you tell me what wire from the alarm brain should go to which coloured wire in the truck?

I just spoke to my installer and he said he didnt tie into the glow plugs,he has the delay set at 15 seconds right now.He is going to try and re-tach the unit (?)in the cold weather and reset the delay to 25 seconds,the big mystery is why does the alarm think the truck is running when it is not ?

You need to use a timer delay....you need more than 30 seconds to get it to start COLD and WARM.

You don't need a delay timer module for the Compustar unit. All you need to do is set the delay on the internal timer to 30-40 seconds ( if you need it that much ) for the delay. All Compustar units have up to a 99 second delay, it's just that you need a programmer to set the timer. What I would look into is to make sure that he tied into the proper tach signal and that the unit learned the tach properly. Otherwise, the system shutsdown right after crank in an effort to protect the vehicle, but the signal has already been sent to the remote control saying that the vehicle has successfully started. Also, make sure that all the IGN and ACC wires have been powered up properly. You need to power up both IGN and both ACC in order to the truck to start succefully without the dummy lights going on. I just did one this morning and set the delay for 22 seconds & powered up all 4 circuits.Jeff

I had a customer with a 2005 Cummings Diesel tell me that the truck will NEVER need longer than 18 seconds for the glow plugs to warm up. He got that number out of a book or manual somewhere...he didn't just make it up. Setting it too long can create problems, so I would ask the installer to set it for 19 seconds. Sounds like the installer used the wrong tach wire. Its grey/blue (if I remember correctly) in one of the big plugs on the lower driver side of the engine. I think its in the plug closest to the radiator. Hard to reach, and the stripe on the wire is hard to see.

Thanks for the additional input guys,can anyone tell me for sure the correct pin # and colour wire for the tach signal?If so I will check it myself today,I was looking at the wiring harness at the fuse block underhood and it does not look too user friendly but I imagine there are worse vehicles out there !

Well,i just had a look and the tach wire is connected to a large plug on a computer controller or ecm of some kind that is mounted on the drivers side of the diesel engine??
