I want put a remote starter on my 2001 Integra. As we all know this Acura model has 8 of the top 20 spots for cars stolen in the US in 2005. If i have a remote starter added, because of the immobilizer, I would have to have to a spare key in a transponder box hiden somehere under the dash. Assuming this key is impossible to access without tearing down the dash, would my car be easier to steal just because of the mere presence of this hidden key? In other words would I render my factory immobilzer useless? i love the convenience but the i would rather do without the remote starter if it totally defeats the immobilzer system. I know the immobilzer is not infallible, but it adds to my peace of mind. I means u want my car, you will have to tow it, not dirve it.

when it is installed properly, it will not compromise factory security. In fact is it better to have a remote start warming up your car than leaving the keys in the ignition.

There are transponders made to temporarily bypass the factory immobilizer ONLY during the remote starter period. Spare KEY in the transponder box is not necessary with this type of bypass.

go to bypasskit.com and have a look for yourself.

also if using a key bypass in the box ask the installer to grind the sides of the key they leave in the car. The key can never be used again in the ignition but will send the signal to start the car with the remote.

i did but i didnt really see the answer i was looking for. I did say it temporarily bypassed the immobilizer but not really how it did it. I really dont care just as long as it TEMORARY with the press of the remote

so the car is just as safe. So if they break the steering wheel lock or pop the ignition, the car will go into immobilize mode? You guys just made me so happy. I bought this car to replace my ninja and to give my Lexus SUV a break. i never lock my cars in my neighbor hood. but ever since i bought it i have become a locking freak. alarms are noisy and sometimes completely ignored. i just didnt want to substitute the security for convenience. Remote starter will be in tommorow

Of the very few times that I actually done this, most cars will probably stay running if you were to "pop" the lock if the car was already running in remote start mode. Most immobilizers are just there for the initial start, and once the car is running you will probably be able to turn the key with a nontransponder key and probably drive away. Worst case, the "Security" light will turn on to alert the driver that there is something wrong with the immobilizer. I know this is true on a couple of cars that I've encountered...I can't speak for all.

Go get a regular, nontransponder copy of your ignition key, put it in the ignition, hold your working transponder key right next to the ignition while you start the car with your regular key. Wait about a minute and then pull the transponder key away from the ignition leaving the nontransponder key in place...give it a couple of minutes and see what happens.

Anyway. i not concerned about the car been stolen once its been started. i feel very secure about that. It would take a ton load of balls for a guy to walk up my long drive way bust my glass, open my door, break my ignition and steal my car @ 7am in the morning. I am more concerned about the 3am thief, when I am fast asleep, who wants a donor engine for his/her civic that they just busted racing illegally.
