I am looking to install a remote starter with keyless in my 2000 Chevy silverado. Presently I am thinking about the DEI Valet 561R.
First, I am looking for a remote start that uses the stock keyless entry and alarm. Will the Valet 561R work for me?
Second, I am considering installing this remote by myself. Is this something a total newbie can do? Or should I pay to have it installed.
Thanks,
Jeremy

The 561R will work fine with your truck. If you are looking for a DEI piece, why not try the Avital 4100, it is the same piece as the 561R but comes with two remotes. The only complaint I get with these pieces is that there is not separate lock and unlock buttons. You have to watch the parking lights and count the flashes to know if it is locked or unlocked. If you are comfortable with installing I would say to go for it, that truck is very simple as most of your connections are made right under the dash either in the ignition harness or the BCM, which is right there too.
The other thing to consider is the Passlock II bypass module, the DEI 556L is nice, but requires you to cut a wire, where as the 1100X does not. I recommend the GMBP from bypasskit.com because it does not need the software change that the 1100X does and is normally less expensive. Just ensure to take your time doing the job and you should be fine.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Thanks for bringing up the seperate lock and unlock buttons, I realized I would rather have two buttons. So that means looking at the Avital 4200. Where can I get one for a good price? Is that something a local dealer would carry?
I looked at the GMBP from bypasskit.com and it says that model has limited functionality for a 2000 Silverado. It also says it will not disarm OEM alarm system. Is this correct?
Thanks,
Jeremy
