06/07 ram, need 20 amp ign source

Well, i put in some air bags for the rear suspension support in a customers 2007 Dodge Ram today. All went well, till I went to wire in the pump, and it calls for AT LEAST a 20 amp ignition source. Im pretty sure the ignition wire (pink/white) at the ignition harness doesn't meet specs, that wire only has a 2 amp factory mini fuse on it. Any of you guys know of any other source I could tie into? The 06 and 07 are the same as far as wiring goes, but the 05 and down are different. Now that I think of it, does the factory trailer harness plug have an ignition source? The one that you can connect under the dash for the trailer wire harness. I'm finishing it up tomorrow, so just thought I'd throw it out there for you guys...see what ya know (or dont). Thanks again.Shaun, we are the same height, that is neat!

Why dont you just use a relay with the battery for power source??

Thats what I was gonna do if I couldn't find a reliable switched power source. I'm not a huge fan of relays I guess, just another fail point in the future. NOT ALL will, but have seem some that are just junk. I would rather just not deal with em if at all possible, but sometimes you just gotta, I understand. I ended up finding what I needed in the kick panel though. Thanks for the insight guys!Shaun, we are the same height, that is neat!

You should not be powering anything that draws 20 amps off of a factory wire. Use a relay, everytime. If the relay fails, they temporarily lose the ability to control the rear suspension pressure, who cares. If the factory wire fuse blows, they could lose power steering, airbags, and most likely would need to get the car towed home. I have never seen a relay fail unless it got wet or overloaded. Mike
